Rules one must live by

You must always treat any firearm as if it was loaded, as such when someone shows a firearm it is presumed to be loaded. Just because you’re waving around an unloaded firearm doesn’t mean anyone else knows it’s unloaded.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine told Action 3 News that 18-year-old Marquail Thomas had no shells in his shotgun, but may have been aiming at customer Harry McCullough when he was shot.

This is yet another example of people who don’t have proper firearms training passing judgment. There is not a gigantic neon arrow pointing to the gun that says “Unloaded”. The presumption is that every firearm is loaded, even when you know otherwise. Hind sight is always 20-20, just because more comes to light doesn’t mean it was a bad decision. The judgment of the decision must be made within the context of the information available at the time.

  1. Bob S. says:

If a thug acts as if a firearm is loaded, I’m going to trust him that it is.

If my response to HIS actions results in loss of life or injury; it was only because I trusted the thug.

This sets up a conundrum for Anti Rights advocates doesn’t it.

We are supposed to believe them when they say “Just give me the money and no one gets hurt” but we aren’t supposed to believe them when they say the gun is loaded?

    How does that work again?

    • Barron Barnett says:

Here is by far my favorite story like this but the original article is long gone.

Short of the story is kids go on crime spree with unloaded gun. Attempt to carjack individual legally concealed carrying. Victim shoots attacker without hesitation when weapon is pointed at him.

Bunch of people get their panties in a bunch when police return the gun and ammunition immediately and rule it self defense. Also the headlines made people upset, “Man with unloaded gun killed by victim.” For once the newspapers told the truth and some ignorant bigot got his panties in a bunch because someone defended himself.

People seem to think there’s a gigantic sign that indicates if a firearm is loaded. My presumption is any and every firearm is loaded even if I just checked the chamber. It helps enforce good muzzle control.
