I never really bothered to pay attention before, but there’s a LOT of Remington 700’s at Boomershoot.DSC_0347

Seriously, I just walked down the line taking pictures and I’m finding that most of them are 700’s.

I brought a Model 70 and an Encore instead

But I actually would love to know the percentage break out. I hadn’t bothered to pay attention before.

I think if you did a “scientific” study, you’d find about 1/4-3/8 of the actual long range rifles there were 700s, or 700 type actions, 1/8th were savages, 1/8th were encores and 1/8th were precision ARs; with the rest being “everything else”.

So yeah, there’s probably twice as many 700s on the line as anything else… maybe three times as many.

I had the only model 70 that I noticed (I’m sure there were others, but I didn’t notice them particularly).

If you include the random rifles in there, iron sights, milsurps, carbines, non-long range AR’s etc… of course, the numbers are much more varied.

For the price you can’t beat ’em. My $475 Remington 700 SPS Varmint shoots 0.5 MOA out of the box. Now, I may be one of the lucky ones, but I’m happy. My shooting partner had a loaner AR-10 that shot really well too. But that darn thing eats ammo in 25 round portions.

The secret to not eat in 25 round portions with the AR-10 is don’t load a full mag!
