Quote of the Day – Thomas Paine
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Fri, 04/30/2010 - 07:30Ignorance is of a peculiar nature; once dispelled, it is impossible to re-establish it. It is not originally a thing of itself, but is only the absence of knowledge; and though man may be kept ignorant, he cannot be made ignorant.
--Thomas Paine, The Rights of Man, I (1791)
Reading this I cannot help but look at the shrinking anti-gun crowd and be pleased. We are successfully beating back ignorance and we shall continue to do so.

Quote of the Day – Thomas Paine
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 21:17"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it." – Thomas Paine, The Crisis 1777
Freedom comes with great responsibility. Many currently would like to loose the burden of responsibility that goes with freedom. They would rather have the nanny state take care of them. While walking the line at Boomershoot I was reminded that I am by no means alone in the effort of seeking self reliance and personal freedom.

Due Process, What’s that?
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 21:04Evidently Child Abuse registries are much like restraining orders, due process is unnecessary to be listed. Many people do not realize how many rights are disrupted without requiring your presence in court. Merely being charged with a felony permanently disrupts your ability to purchase firearms. Well permanently unless you're willing to pay money to the ATF and FBI. I was unable to purchase firearms due to a NICS black list for a year after the charges were dropped. I was not convicted of a felony, the charges were dropped, the State of Washington even returned the firearm I had in my possession the day of the accident, yet I could NOT purchase a firearm. That NICS hold did not even require my being found guilty in court, it was automatic. To this day that blip on my record still causes issues. I receive a week hold when purchasing firearms others can walk out with immediately. I'm delayed in background checks for other materials, such as when I got checked out to work for Joe. Once your name is placed onto any list, it is difficult if not impossible to remove. If you can remove it, they extort you for money.

Boomershoot 2010 Video and Report
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Tue, 04/27/2010 - 21:50Boomershoot 2010 was awesome and a lot of fun. I don't know exactly why, but I ended up shooting the opening fireball for the shoot. Laurel from Politics Guns and Beer was there along with an entourage of help. I spent some time behind the rifle, but I spent more time educating and making sure others had a blast. And I'm glad to say, it appears they did have a great time.

Quote of the Day – Laurel Griffeath
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Tue, 04/27/2010 - 19:21"Do you really think a bunch of shooting bloggers lead by Joe Huffman is going to go anywhere without the internet Mike?"
Laurel Griffeath – 4/25/2010

Friday High Intensity Video
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Mon, 04/26/2010 - 23:08Youtube has finished processing my uploaded video and my collaboration of the footage for the Friday High-Intensity is now up. Enjoy.
By the way, I'm working on a Boomershoot Video for 2010, but it appears it may just be 480p due to some unforeseen reason. Software is complaining and I can't figure out why. I'll work on uploading it in the morning.

Boomershoot 2010 PRC AAR
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Mon, 04/26/2010 - 10:54This is my short little after action report on the precision rifle clinic 2010. Friday was a great day for shooting. Winds around 4-8 MPH I discovered my zeros from last year were still good, no real surprise there though. Though I did get a solid reminder in the pre-shooting rifle check. I don't know how, but the bases of my rings came loose and could have caused some serious issues. I discovered my BDC on my second rifle was quite accurate and was easily putting rounds on the steel at 700 yards.

River Dog’s Shooting Match
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Tue, 04/20/2010 - 22:02River Dog had an awesome idea for a shooting match this year to run during the PRC. From looking at it though I have an idea for a different set of rules. Since River Dog already has a competition up for this year I think I'll just save my idea for next year. I'll do some testing on feasibility this year and if it works, I'll talk to Joe and set up something for next year.

Boomershoot 2010
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Tue, 04/20/2010 - 21:41The run up has officially begun. I've got Wednesday through next Tuesday off for pre-run up, PRC, and after event work and clean up. I will be in positions 54/55 this year. Any visiting bloggers are more than welcome to swing by. I'm more than happy to teach you how to snipe some boomers and help you put some rounds down range accurately. (Note: I'll probably walk up and down the line for 45 minutes prior to lunch to look at other hardware and take video and pictures. After lunch I'll be there the whole time.)
I've noticed from talking to some people they are extremely put off at the thought of shooting long distances. They somehow feel it is extremely different than shooting 100 yards. While yes it is different, and experience is a great help it's not actually that different. Fundamentals never change, sight picture, breathing, squeezing the trigger, that's all basic and standard. What is different is the amount of thinking ahead of the shot. Experienced shooters can easily do this mental preparation on their own; however what really makes it possible for any shooter connect to a target at long range is the spotter.
Whenever possible the more experienced shooter is actually the spotter, not the trigger man. Squeezing the trigger is simple and once mastered it becomes second nature. The spotter watches the trace, following the bullet to the point of impact. Here's the basic order of operations and responsibilities of each during a shot.

Video Mash Up now up
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Sun, 04/18/2010 - 20:03The video is now posted. For some reason the blog software published the item before I wanted it to be. If you checked the site due to an RSS, consider this a new ping. You can check out the video here.

BoomerShoot 2009 Video Mash-up
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Sun, 04/18/2010 - 17:58As I finally was able to process the video for blogger day, I spent today doing the video for the event as a whole. I used the high intensity event as the main filler while showing all the different pieces of BoomerShoot. Enjoy!

Awesomely Late Blogger Day Post
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Sun, 04/18/2010 - 14:07Now that my box is back up and running, CAPTCHAS enabled, and I have a minor break in things. I guess I'll do a post on last year's blogger day. This year I'm going to help with setup on Thursday and let my wife enjoy blogger day. She has an account here, and can blog, but she says she has nothing to write about. Hopefully I can change that.
It started off in the wee early hours of the morning, around 10am I do believe, when fearless leader arrived. Note, awesome video at bottom!

Light Posting
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Sat, 04/17/2010 - 09:26Yes, posting has been light as of late. Numerous issues have plagued my pc, home, and life in general.
I think I finally have solved the hardware issue plaguing my PC, I'm working on installing a CAPTCHA on the site. Currently I have to approve all anonymous comments. It's a pain in my ass.
This is a test to see if the software update was successful.
As there's an Erupting Volcano in Iceland, here's a pic my dad took while stationed there.
