How to tell they’re not serious about the budget…

They put Washington State Senator Patty Murray in charge of finding 1.5 trillion to cut from the deficit.

That socialist cow has never seen a taxpayer dollar she didn’t feel like spending.  Not to mention how much she loves the TSA, Social Security, Obama Care, and ever other big government program under the sun*. I sent a letter to both Senators over Obama care, it was obvious she never read mine since she (more likely an aid) sent me a response thanking me for my support and then reiterating the lies of why it was so important to pass it.

You want to know why the S&P down graded the credit of the United States?  This is why, the government isn’t serious about cutting back spending in any way, shape, or form.  The proposed cut backs amount to pennies in comparison to the problem and even then they shove the spending cow from Washington to be in charge of it.

I can guarantee you ever last cut is going to be from programs that will cause maximum carnage and outrage so that all the Repulicrats and Democicans can drum up support amongst the dependent voters.  The country is swirling the drain folks and I hope you’re ready cause it’s going to be one hell of a ride.

Seriously, that's like putting the fat kid at fat camp in charge of the diet.

*I’m sure that the fact that I am stating these opinions publically will have me placed on the list for reeducation when the time arrives.  She seriously is nothing more than an elitist socialist cow.

Fun With Numbers… Deficit Edition

Well this should probably be titled more of depression by numbers but it should help illustrate how new and additional taxes aren’t going to solve our current problem.  All numbers for this exercise have been obtained from US Debt Clock.

Current Tax Revenue as of Today: $2.2 Trillion

Current Spending As of Today: $3.6 Trillion

Deficit for the Year As of Today: $1.4 Trillion

US Population: 311 Million

Deficit per man woman and child:  $4,500

US Taxpayers: 111 Million

Deficit per taxpayer: $12,612

In order to break even in our spending that’s what’s needed in new taxes.  But remember they are only going to raise taxes on those earning over $200,000.  What does this do to their effective tax rate?

According to Fact Check, places 1 in 50 households making more than $250k a year.  That comes out to 2% of households, which we will for the sake of providing maximum cushion apply it to 2% of the population.

Population making over $250k: 6.22 Million

Deficit per “Taxable Citizen” under their plan: $225080

Given that huge disparity it can be assumed that the effective tax rate for those who earn $250k or more will be 90%.  Remember the population making over 250k in this case is probably grossly exaggerated and I expect the required tax rate to be 100%.  So what incentive will they have to continue working, or running their business who employee others?  Joe did an example of how these cuts are actually looking for a simpler perspective most can understand.  The government needs to learn to spend within it’s means, the rest of us have to.  They have a credit card and own the credit company which keeps issuing new credit.  Eventually you end up so far in over your head there’s no way out but bankruptcy.

It seems that many are willing to listen to this class warfare, and are more than happy to use the force of government to prey upon the efforts of others.  Doesn’t matter if they’re a D or an R, the bottom line is neither really cares about the future of the union and arresting the deficit.  All they care about is their reelection which means giving taxpayer money to voters.  The few that have the balls to stand up and say no more are berated by none other than king RINO McCain.

Hope you have all invested in a plan “B” because it appears that our elected reps have pushed the throttles forward and put the nose straight at the ground.  This is going to leave one hell of a crater.

Another way to look at all of this, every tax payer is a single father with 2.7 children he is providing for.  So in a household that is “DINK”, Dual Income No Kids, they support 5.4 other people.  There is an enormity to the spending situation, it appears that only a few of us are willing to point out the wickedness along with its size.

When One Fight Ends…

When one fight ends another one is surely to follow.  HB 1016, the suppressor bill, was finally signed into law yesterday.  Under the table however within the past couple days, one of only 4 people who didn’t support the bill has introduced new legislation.

Representative Ross Hunter, who amazingly enough is the chair of the Ways and Means committee, has introduced legislation to repeal one of the most beneficial self-defense laws Washington State has.  He want’s to repeal RCW 9A.16.110, which allows for reimbursement of legal defense costs when a person is acquitted of a crime on the basis of self-defense.

Why he is attacking this law specifically is unclear, however it most likely pertains to attempting to balance the budget.  This however is not how one goes about balancing the budget.  One does not throw law abiding citizens who have been wrongly brought before the bar because of an act of self defense to be bankrupted by the state.  They were a victim in the crime committed against them or their family and then they are further victimized by overzealous prosecutors who then give bonuses for convictions

The prosecutor has discretion regarding whether to bring a case before the bar, as such if you want to save the state money, make him responsible for the reimbursement of legal costs.  If someone is found not guilty by reason of self-defense, the prosecutors office is then responsible for paying the legal fees.  Employees in the office are not paid until the reimbursement is settled.  If the office is no longer able to prosecute cases so be it.  Prosecuting someone for defending themselves, family, or another innocent should seriously hurt.  Making the prosecutor liable for the costs would certainly help.  This will actually cut costs doubly since prosecutors wont be paying for court fees either in cases that should never appear before the bar.

Please contact the members of the House Ways and Means Committee and make your voice heard.  This is completely unacceptable and does nothing more than allow our law abiding citizens to be victimized twice.  Once by the criminal and again by the state.

Update: It appears that it may have been already pulled from the agenda for tomorrow. I'm going with trust but verify. I am writing an email to my rep who's on the committee to verify. I will keep you all posted.

Update 2:I just got an email from Joe Schmick:

The bill has been pulled from the agenda. We will have to wait and see if it indeed stays off the agenda for the remainder of the week.

I have received numerous calls and emails on this topic over the last few days. Not one person has contacted me in support of the bill. I am hearing loud and clear to oppose the bill.

Due to the concern of it appearing on the agenda again, contact your reps if you have not already.

I guess I’m Cynical

When I read the following all I could think was, that’s a good start.

A Republican plan for the 2012 budget would cut more than $4 trillion over the next decade, more than even the president's debt commission proposed, with spending caps as well as changes in the Medicare and Medicaid health programs, its principal author said Sunday.

I wouldn’t shed a tear if any and every last entitlement program was dead ended tomorrow.  Even more than that, I would prefer to see every government investment program done in as well.  The way investments work is risk and reward system.  The government programs have absolutely no risk, yet they promise huge payouts.  The question becomes how do they afford this?  That is quite simple, the government covers it’s losses by the use of force collecting the funds required from the those who pay taxes.

Government is force, those who vote receive entitlements from government are merely asking the government to steal on their behalf.

Even the Fed Now Admits it

A Federal Reserve official announced today that the US has reached a cross roads towards insolvency.

"If we continue down on the path on which the fiscal authorities put us, we will become insolvent, the question is when," Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Richard Fisher said in a question and answer session after delivering a speech at the University of Frankfurt. "The short-term negotiations are very important, I look at this as a tipping point."

As time moves forward people, agencies, and others will progress through the stages.  The pain train is coming whether people like it or not.  To come out of this is going to take blood sweat and tears, pain is unavoidable and the longer people try and prolong the inevitable the more the final crash is going to hurt.  If you think everything is roses and unicorns, think again.

Spending more, While cutting back?

So while cutting the budget today by 6.5 billion dollars, congress increased the deficit by 72 billion dollars.

The national debt jumped by $72 billion on Tuesday even as the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution to fund the government for just three weeks that will cut $6 billion from government spending.

Only our government could increase the national debt while claiming they were cutting back.  The fun doesn’t stop there though because it ends up the Federal Revenue no longer covers the mandatory spending for required government functions.

The White House Office of Management and Budget projects that in the current fiscal year (2011), mandatory spending alone will exceed all federal receipts. So even if we didn’t spend a single cent on discretionary programs, we still wouldn’t be able to balance our budget this year — let alone pay off any of the $14 trillion in debt that we have already accumulated.

Joe had a great example the other day regarding the current finical situation.  At this point the government couldn’t save money even if it wanted to.  Even then it would require serious cuts including getting rid of unnecessary jobs, social programs, and other things that really aren’t the role of government.

While some are vehemently objecting, others will be upset that what was promised them is no longer possible, and it will require that people return to being productive.  Will it be painful, will many be upset they lost money “promised” them you bet.  However you can’t get money for nothing and with how things are going the only solution is going to be to print the money to pay off the debts.  This will weaken the value of the currency and people will be paid their due with cash that is worthless.

The government is still running flat out ignoring the fact that a mile down the road the bridge is out.  You have city councils giving themselves pay raises.  You have public employee unions working to continue and increase their burden on the public.  Then you have congress who are cutting back their budget while actually spending even more.

If you haven’t started thinking about how you’re going to survive the coming economic collapse, you might want to seriously start thinking about it.  This is unsustainable and it appears our elected officials are actually trying to ensure this crisis occurs.

Quote of the Day–Cindy Perman (03/15/2011)

Millionaires only have 24 hours in a day, just like the rest of us. What separates them from us is time management. While the rest of us go home and flop on the couch in front of the TV, the wealthy are reading and doing things that contribute to their success.

[Many people feel entitled to different things, from money to property, to services.  They look at millionaires and say they got rich by stealing from the poor.  While some, such as Madoff certainly did exactly that most make their fortune by working their ass off.

The government runs much the same scheme as Madoff, except they require mandatory investment at the end of a gun.  They then call this scheme “Social Security”.  The government takes the excess income and instead of saving it for when the payouts will be greater than the input, they spend it elsewhere.

Many of us in America are working hard, constantly trying to get ahead.  While we’re busy trying to save money, our government is squandering what it does have and is now taking even more.   If you want more money, look in the mirror, it’s up to you to earn it.  Though with all of those who feel entitled to your money, it’s becoming harder to keep it after you earn it.  -B ]

Well There’s A Problem

There is a serious problem when you let people give themselves raises from the public coffers and the City of Denver has been so kind to demonstrate it for us.

After spirited debate Monday, Denver's City Council voted 10-3 to tentatively approve a 6.6 percent raise for the next sitting council and every other elected official — an increase to be delayed for half of their four-year terms.

The city is facing a $100 million budget shortfall for the 2012 budget and has a structural budget problem that, if not addressed, could balloon into a $500 million deficit by 2030.

In an economy where most people are struggling to make ends meet, are doing everything they can to save money and cut their personal deficit the city council voted to give themselves a raise from the public coffers increasing the already large deficit.  You do not save money or cut down on debt by spending more.

Many companies have not given their employees raises over the past couple years and even more took a reduction in equal to what they were making.  While the rest of America is tightening it’s belts, these individuals are choosing to spend more money that isn’t their and rack up more debt that they are neither responsible or accountable for.  I hope come election time the 10 that voted yes will have opponents and be voted out of office.  Hopefully their replacements will immediately work to revert the wages back.  Obviously many in the government still don’t seem to understand the concept of spending within your means.

5 Stages of Grief, Economic Twist

Lately there has been a lot of yelling that the country isn't broke. This morning it became apparent to me that the country is going through the stages of grief with regards to the economy.

  1. Denial, Denial is pretending the problem doesn't exist or cannot be seen. Many are currently doing that, ignoring how bad the financial situation really is.
  2. Anger, Anger has been expressed over and over by both people who are still in stage one, as well as people in stage 3.
  3. Bargaining, People on both sides of the isle are trying to bargain their way out of the inevitable truth. There is no money to borrow to fix this. It's going to take sweat blood and tears.
  4. Depression, Often this stage and the next are rolled together. It's questions like Joe's that get asked when you realize bargaining is no longer useful and the depression of the truth sinks in.
  5. Acceptance, You realize this is going to hurt, there is nothing that can be done, but it's better to take your licks now than let it grow and hurt more later.

The sooner you realize the gravity of the situation, the better. That's steps 4 and 5 folks, steps 1-3 are merely trying to prolong the inevitable. In order to be able to survive this, cuts are going to have to be made and people are going to have to accept that. Is it going to hurt, yes, but some times in order to get better you have to go through some pain.
