WSU Student Rights and Little London
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Thu, 09/29/2011 - 11:17So the level of brainwashing that has been inflicted upon our youth has been quite apparent over the past few weeks of reading the Washington State University news paper. The first article is an effort to bring a little bit of Brittan right here to the heartland of America.
The royal kicker though is what the editorial board admits in a following opinion piece.
(Emphasis mine.) They readily admit that the cameras will not deter crime. The school continues to prohibit the ability for students to lawfully carry on campus and the paper is more than supportive against allowing lawful carry. Yet they are more than willing to argue that students throw away their privacy for semblance of security. It is a public place after all so really how much privacy should you have. Well the editorial board obviously doesn't care considering the following piece I saw in yesterdays paper.

Guns on Campus, A Response
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Thu, 03/03/2011 - 21:05So the WSU Daily Evergreen ran a horrible opinion piece today regarding carrying concealed weapons on campus. The piece was so full of inaccuracies, it just couldn’t be ignored, especially since many will take it as fact.
She starts by listing off Texas and Arizona which are currently looking at legalizing concealed carry on campus as Utah has done. She then follows this up with this baffling quote of contradiction.

The Economics of a Degree
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Sat, 01/22/2011 - 20:24Recently there have been a couple posts regarding higher education and student loans on a blog I frequent. The wife and I having both recently graduated from a four year university thought we would provide some extra input about our observations.
I graduated from Washington State University with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Starting salary for a BS averages about $60K, MS $71K, and a Ph.D. $88k nationally. The 5 years it took me to earn my degree cost approximately $90K total. I could have taken a job as a CCNA immediately out of high school and made about $30K per year. So, for 5 years in school, I spent approximately $90,000 and also lost an additional $30,000 plus raises for gained experience, figure at the end it would have been about $34,500. So combining the opportunity cost, and the actual cost of my degree I’m in the hole approximately $250,000 dollars for my engineering degree. Though I also am a little bit further off than most since I also had my CCNA, we could use a lower salary in the $18,000 range and it still comes in at $185,000. Using the average BSEE salary, it would take me 14 years before I broke even with my earning power as a CCNA because of the debt. This approximation does not take into account full promotions, it just assumes an annual 3.5% pay increase per year.

WSU Hate-Crimes and Forced Victimization
Submitted by Barron Barnett on Thu, 10/23/2008 - 17:16This morning on the radio it was announced that recently there have been hate crimes on the WSU campus. What I heard was "Forced disarmament ensures victims for hate crimes!" Many would look at the geographic location and figure that it's because we're "rural" and don't like people who are different. The fact is though, this is actually pretty far off and one hell of a stereotype. The same crap happened while I was at UW in Seattle. This same stereotype is often used against gun owners. This is even more of a slap since many gun owners view firearms as a line of self defense that EVERYONE has a right to. It is the universal leveler than ANYONE can use to defend themselves.
The fact that the University forces everyone, including those who want and have more need than normal to provide for their own personal defense, to be disarmed is disconcerting.
