Denial, the first stage of grief…

So the wife brought home an article and it is a reminder our fight is not over, but mainly because of their attachment to their false reality.

After struggling to sway both state and federal lawmakers, proponents of expanding background checks for gun sales are now exploring whether they will have more success by taking the issue directly to voters.

While advocates generally prefer that new gun laws be passed through the legislative process, especially at the national level, they are also concerned about how much sway the National Rifle Association has with lawmakers. Washington Rep. Jamie Pedersen, a Democrat who had sponsored unsuccessful legislation on background checks at the state level, said a winning ballot initiative would make a statement with broad implications.

We shutdown the Federal attempt at creating new gun control.  Even an amendment that had some decent support from big names on our side failed.  Lets take a quick look at what new gun laws have been passed even at the state level.

New York:

They railroaded their legislation through in the middle of the night so that the people, not the NRA, could fight it.  The legislation was so full of problems that there was not even a police exemption.

Connecticut:

This was railroaded in much the same as New York.  They declared it a legislative emergency to prevent public debate and discussion of the topic.  Notice a pattern here?

Maryland and Colorado:

Both allowed but limited public debate.  Those supporting gun-control were by far outnumbered but due to time constraints, some people had to wait multiple days to testify.

Where am I going?

I could continue but do you notice a pattern in this?  The fact is we outnumber you. You are in fact the minority and doubly you are a puritan and hate liberty.  You are living in a world of denial.  The NRA has passed the 5.5 million member mark.  At the Boomershoot dinner this year we met a nice old lady who doesn’t even own a firearm that just recently joined the NRA.  Why?  Because she doesn’t support the goals you’re attempting to achieve.

Hell, the NRA Annual Meeting having an attendance size above 60,000.  Tell me, how big was your last Gun Grabber Annual Meeting?  Tell me, how many paying members have come into the rolls of the Brady Campaign and CSGV over the past 5 months?  Wikipedia lists it at under 28,000.  We had more than twice the people pay to attend the annual meeting in Texas than you have in your entire membership.  That’s also in a weak economy where many don’t have excess cash to spend.

News flash to you Mr. Baker I am the NRA and I vote.  There are 5.5 million of us who have joined the NRA to explicitly support our rights, and we all vote.  There are millions more who aren’t members of the NRA but the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is a central item to their voting pattern and guess what, they vote too.

I want you to understand something Mr. Baker.  Behind me there are thousands of other gun owners who will fight until the bitter end.  You call me a bitter clinger so by god I might as well just accept the suck.  We will not stop until we sweep you and your hateful compatriots into the dust bin of history where you will sit next to the likes of the KKK.

All your side has is emotion and heart strings.  We have facts, reason, and the support of the majority.  The first step in the grieving process is denial.  You refuse to accept the truth Mr. Baker despite all the facts to the contrary.  You insist on conspiracies and a lack of public support despite all the evidence showing this isn’t true.  You insist that gun owners, as well as those who support their rights, are in the minority without any evidence to prove it.  At the mass convention of your “arch nemesis” you could only route 40 people to protest your enemy.

We routed 2/3 that number on two days notice in a considerably less populated area of Idaho.  And that was to protest a Republican.  Where’s your numbers to support your initiatives for the ballot box?

Quote of the Day – Sean Sorrentino (5/2/2013)

No, the only reason you give a shit at all about this poor little girl from a gun owning family in a flyover state is because you think you can use her death to advance your political agenda. At some point, when you were down on your knees scooping her blood up in your hands so you could grease the skids for more gun control, you should have seriously questioned your humanity.

[Honestly I couldn’t put it better myself and it’s worth going over and reading the whole thing.  They are nothing more than vultures praying for preying upon the tragedies of others. -B]

I’m Sure They Would Have Done the Same for the Other Side

Ryan Grim, Washington bureau chief for The Huffington Post, explains to MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell how he and other “journalists” prevented Capitol Hill police from removing an anti-gun advocate from the Senate gallery after she yelled at Senators who voted down an amendment to expand background checks.

[Sarcasm] I’m sure all those journalists would have also jumped to the defense of a human rights advocate had they given the same type of outburst. [/Sarcasm]

Stage 2: Anger…

Thanks to Uncle I came across this and didn’t place it yesterday.

Obama Fit

They are angry.  Many of them are moving past the denial stage.  They cannot remain there anymore, they failed when they felt they couldn’t possibly.

This isn’t to say the fight is over or that our victory is assured.  It does however work quite well with this comment from Uncle.

Pelosi says it’s just a matter of time. Most people on the wrong side of history think that until the end.

Their movement is dying, it’s just none of that have or are willing to accept their fate.

I did not want to get involved, but…

A person on twitter decided to make derogatory statements towards me, behind my husband’s back, so to speak. She had the audacity, without knowing me, to call me fat. My husband was in a debate/argument with her about firearms, more specifically the AR 15 platform. She went into PSH and escalated from there.

Her statement makes me believe that she is a bitter old hag who is angry at life for having a disability. The disability she mentions I don’t have much sympathy for.

Especially since she still has her fucking foot. My dad is an amputee. My disability, radial nerve palsy, has essentially rendered my dominate hand useless. I empathize with people who have disabilities. Also, she seems to not have reading comprehension since my husband did not generalize disabilities. He specifically stated that she doesn’t understand MY disability.

Further, the AR15 platform she is freaking out about has provided a way for me to safely and effectively shoot a rifle.

For starters, it has a low recoil and therefore doesn’t kill my muscle atrophied shoulder. The pistol grip allows me to hold the rifle so as to not torque my wrist like a standard rifle. The front post gives me stability to safely fire the firearm without causing strain to my good/working arm. Due to my disability a bolt-action rifle is not a viable option for me.  I can not easily operate a bolt with my injured hand.

This woman is nothing more than a miserable old person intent on spreading her misery to others.  Which isn’t surprising since “Gun Control is a Movement of Old White People.

I’m not miserable or upset by my disability unlike that woman.  Why?  Because I had one of the best role models in the world for dealing with it.  She is dead set on spreading her misery and ensuring that everyone be as miserable as her.  Heaven forbid they find the freedom and empowerment that comes with shooting firearms.

Lastly, my family hunts to stock their freezer.  The meat is by far healthier for our family and we know full well where our food came from.  You don’t get much more “free range” or “organic” than bagging your own buck.

Then again she doesn’t really care, she just hates anyone who does anything that she doesn’t like.  If you looked up the word “Puritan” in the dictionary, you would find her face next to it as a shining example.

Quote of the Day – Michael Bane(4/9/2012)

Yes, the words of victims have special poignancy, but what they don’t have is any special truth. Grief drives us to look toward the heavens and demand an answer from any nearby Deity. Grief drives us to demand a solution to the fundamental insoluble problem, which is that the world is as it is. Bad things happen, often to good people, and grief drives us to…do something.

To me there is no greater sin…and I use the word “sin” specifically…than harnessing grief to serve a crass political agenda.

[QTFMFT!  The other side of this debate points at us as if we are heartless and have absolutely no empathy with the victims.  That is merely a tactic they use to dehumanize their “enemy”.

We know that being a victim doesn’t make you magically knowledgeable about a subject.  We know that the only thing it does is give you the perspective of being a victim.  It doesn’t mean that because you say “Doing X” will actually make it better.  Other than being a victim, what supporting facts and evidence do they have?

This comes right back to the rules for coping with tragedy.

There are those who hate those rules because emotion is the only argument they have. -B]

Breaking News, Brady Campaign Admits What We All Knew

The Brady Campaign is now finally admitting that they would like to see a total confiscation of firearms.

In a surprising turn of events today the Brady Campaign issued the following press statement through email.

In light of the recent events at Sandy Hook along with the rampant gun violence seen through out America we think the time has finally come for American’s to lay down their arms.

There is no need for any type of bullet spewing machine in this day and age.  One has cell phones and can easily call the police if trouble should arise.  Guns only serve as a tool to harm innocents, including the young man just trying to get money to support his habit.

It is for this reason we support the acts proposed in Congress and would like to see the government take the arms of the American people if they are not willing to lay them down voluntarily.  Any person who would own a firearm is not an American, but a terrorist who wishes harm and violence upon them.

This is an extreme change in position of the past years where repeatedly the Brady Campaign would insist over and over than no one was out to take anyone’s firearms.  That the only changes they sought were “common sense” and would aid in keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals.

This press statement however has not indicated how this action will improve or change their perspective relevance in the current fight on gun control.

I will post more information as it comes in.

Note this was posted on April 1st and is a joke. Though it does serve as an additional reminder of Poe’s law.

If I had known this would come from those mags, I would have purchased them for that sole purpose.

[The magazines in question can be seen here.  Screen shot is below, though it’s worth clicking over just to read the whole debate it started (I will include the best part).

You can probably already guess who the problem child was in that threat of comments.  Read through them the debate was interesting even if honestly it fits the script I’ve seen 100 times.  Seriously I don’t know how they do it but I swear every “debate” goes through the exact same evolution. The kicker though is during that evolution they always do the same thing at one particular point.

And that folks, ended the debate.  Seriously, he stayed quite after that.  Though there is one other comment that frankly had me laughing my ass off.

I think Matthew’s final observation there nails it.  I gave plenty of counter anecdotal evidence along with information he could independently verify.  Instead he alluded to the idea that John and I are compensating for something.  Yup, that’s the sign of the winning argument there. –B]
