On that Soda Ban…

So Phil over at RNS stumbled across and laid out a bunch of petty tyrants talking about how great the soda ban is.  I sparked the beginning of what became the reclassification of the term “New York Reload”.

Now supposedly this ban doesn’t affect places that sell things like grocery’s and convince stores unless they fall under the purview of the “health department”.  I.E. this mainly affects fountain drinks.  I don’t care, and the whole thing is absurd, especially when in light of the following:

Yup, you can still have your 40 oz. of Malt Liquor but your 20 oz. of Mountain Dew is going to kill you faster than anything!

IMAG0216IMAG0221

So instead you decide to have a 40 oz. Bud!  Heaven forbid you drink Gatorade when you’re out in the heat!

IMAG0217IMAG0222

Instead of a bottle you opt for a can.  Perfectly fine.  The 20 oz. bottle of Mountain Dew with real sugar though, it’s so bad it needs to be outlawed by government.

IMAG0226IMAG0225

You can have an 8 pack of 12 oz. cokes, totaling 96 oz., and that is perfectly fine.  Having a 1L coke, which is 33.8 oz. is bad though.  We can’t have that!

Six 8 oz. can’s of Mountain Dew, you’re good.  A 20 oz. bottle of Gatorade is so bad it must be controlled by the state.

And lastly a 6 pack of 12 oz. bottles of Gatorade are perfect for the summer day.  A 1 QT bottle however is the end of the world as we know it.

Does anyone see anything interesting about the two packs of 12 oz. bottles?

It increases waste for the same volume of product.  Here we are supposedly wanting to help save the environment and reduce waste yet our fearless leaders create regulations that will cause people to increase it?  Pardon me skeptical then that excess waste is really a problem!

Seriously, the only people who support behavior like this are petty tyrants.  Tyrants that honestly need to be run out of town on a rail.  So if you’re unfortunate enough to live in New York, I give you your solution for putting up with tyranny while thumbing your nose.  Behold the New York Reload for soda!

New York Reload

Seriously, the last thing I need or want is more soda.  Hell, for the most part we never have soda in the house.  Thanks to Numnut and the tyrants, I had to go buy some just for this demonstration!

*A side note, I am not a prohibitionist.  I am quite the opposite, however I do find it interesting that sugary drinks are bad, but you can have all the alcohol you want.  Why not just cut the size of a pack of cigarettes?  Oh wait fearless leader smokes, he just wants your bad habits to go away.

I think the ban on “large capacity beverage devices” is stupid, but the science behind thinking that sugary drinks, and specifically fructose, is pretty good. I’ve known about people saying sugar was bad for you for a long time (at least since “the sugar blues” book came out in the 80s), but it wasn’t until I saw Robert Lustig’s “sugar: the bitter truth” on youtube that I really understood the *why* of it. Since then, I’ve cut may already low refined sugar intake significantly, and almost completely eliminated sugary drinks out of a basic understanding of the metabolic harm they do. I rarely add more than a teaspoon of sugar to my coffee, tea, or anything like that, and I used to like them SWEET, and I try to drink it with at least a bit of food with fiber in it.

BLARG! Proofread before hitting POST… I meant that the science behind thinking sugary drinks ARE SERIOUSLY BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH is pretty solid.

    •  Oh I’m trying to cut back my sugar intake.  I know it’s not healthy for me, but you know what it’s none of the governments business.

GREAT POST!  I dunno about you but that OE 800 looks a whole lot better than that candy-water to me!

Oh and I’m pretty sure cigarettes MUST come in a pack of 20 or more in the United states by LAW.    There’s a huge issue in NYC about vendors selling single cigarettes.  also back when I smoked clove cigarettes I’d have to buy two complete packs of 10 smokes that had been bailed together.

Of course our smoking president doesn’t smoke cloves, so he banned those because they’re “Flavored Cigarettes”.     Menthol is still legal…any guess  why?  😉

    Great post!

I can not even believe we are talking about this in this country!

A few weeks ago this woman took a class where I work and she said she can’t eat salt and she thinks all the restaurants should be legally ban from using salt. I said, are you insane…well, I was more polite, but her argument was…you won’t even miss it and it’s better for you.

Ugh, lady you don’t have the right to restrict my diet based on your inability to process salt or your desire to protect me.

The point is she is a smart, “normal” American, who thinks it is ok to pass that kind of legislation. Baffles me!

    • Actually not allowing salt goes into a whole realm of other problems.  When doing physical activities even while in shape I sweat buckets.  I sweat enough that while in scouts on more than one occasion I had to take a salt pill.  It was like I opened the valve and couldn’t close it again.  My body had extremely low sodium because I had sweat it out.

If it wasn’t for that salt pill, it would have been difficult to get my body to re-regulate.  The end possibility was a trip to the hospital without that pill.  In the hospital they would have given me an IV with saline in it.  Otherwise known as salt water.

It always bugs the hell out of me when people can’t eat X so they think everyone should be excluded from it.  Then they argue it’s better to ban it because it makes you healthier.  Which isn’t always true.  The key to life is moderation and it drives me nuts when people try to out right ban it because they can’t moderate themselves.

Just because someone is allergic to peanuts doesn’t mean someone else needs to be banned from eating them.  Just because someone is allergic to soy doesn’t mean that the government needs to ban it.  Just because someone is allergic to corn doesn’t mean the government needs to ban it.  Just because some people drink soda like water doesn’t mean the government needs to ban it.  It’s my life and if I want to drive it into the ground drinking things heavy on sugar, which out of moderation is quite bad, that’s my decision to make.

The communists’ goal in life is to do as much meddling in society as possible.  Totalitarianism– no part of your life is outside of politics– everything is government’s business.

The constantly changing and updating rationalizations they use are a side issue.  A distraction.  While we talk about the possible effects of sugar in the human diet, they’re planning the next legislative attack on liberty.

If their communist “health care” fully kicks in, you’ll see this sort of thing kick into warp drive.  Everything, from the number of kids you have, to the way you raise them, to whether you own a gun, to your thermostat setting, will be a “health” issue.  They’re so close to it they can taste it.

They sure are going to go apeshit when we take it away from them.
