SSCC #490–IMPD

This one is in the count because of the ongoing history with the IMPD.  As I have said previously, an incident of blatant corruption usually indicates a deeper issue within a department and it appears we have another data point.

Detectives from the IMPD Special Investigations Unit arrested 40-year-old John Haggard of Indianapolis. He was arrested for burglary, criminal recklessness, criminal confinement, pointing a firearm, domestic battery and battery.

Details are light, but interestingly the IMPD is conducting the investigation.  I wonder if it will be like their DUI investigations.

State Sponsored Criminal #490: John Haggard

Because things like burglary and criminal recklessness are only crimes if you’re not anointed.  Being anointed means they give you a gun and are exempt right?

SSCC #361 – IMPD

Via Roberta X and Tam I stumbled across another in a reoccurring theme out of IMPD.

A 35-year veteran of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department faces preliminary misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to stop after an accident resulting in injury after a suspected hit-and-run Monday afternoon.

While this patrol monkey was off duty, the department history, especially this shining incident causes me to include this in the count.

Because drinking and driving is only a problem when you don’t have the seal of anointment placed upon your collar.

SSCC #383–IMPD

Here’s another from RobertaX.

Also during the past five months, Ratcliff has continued to stalk and harass a woman who has been the object of his obsession for years, according to Marion County prosecutors who charged him Thursday. He faces three felony counts of stalking, one misdemeanor count of battery and 26 misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy.

Here’s a question, why was he still employed as a police officer during that time if he was harassing and stalking a woman?  I guess the IMPD believes in giving predators every advantage.

State Sponsored Criminal #383: Craig Ratcliff

Because an officer of the law stalking a someone is perfectly acceptable and while we disarm the general public we should leave them with their badge and gun to use against their victim.*

*Note, I don’t like how many of the DV laws work for this reason amongst others.  It is too easy to use against someone who is actually innocent and is often used as a tactic to harass someone through the legal system, but the futility is obvious when some how when a cop does it he’s special.

SSCC #462 – IMPD

INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis police officer has been arrested on a drunken driving charge.

Officer Allen Johnson, 25, was pulled over for speeding just after 3 a.m. Thursday in the 5700 block of North Keystone Avenue, police said.

While it was in his personal vehicle, the history of the IMPD with DUIs causes this one to go on the count.

State Sponsored Criminal #462: Allen Johnson

Because it’s only really driving under the influence when you aren’t a cop.

SSCC #313 – Indianapolis

Via Roberta X (I double checked this time Tam), comes a story of drunk driving with the IMPD.  This is nothing surprising, but the story overall is just astounding.  Roberta does a great job synopsizing it.  Remember this officer killed two motorcyclists after crashing into them while on duty.

Today, he — or his peerstook out a police chief, too.
Seems two vials of blood were drawn and one of them was to be left
untouched by human hands; both were secured in Official IMPD
refrigerated storage…only in November 2011, Persons Unrevealed took
the untapped vial out of the so-secure IMPD property room,* and stuffed
it in a room-temperature room over at the Po-lice Academy. Perhaps as a
talisman of just how thick the ol’ Thin Blue Line really is — but I’m
speculating.

Think about that long and hard and what would have happened to any other civilian who had done what he did.  We’d be in jail at a minimum, he’s on paid administrative leave.  Like you and me, only better.  Given the fact the Chief didn’t fire his ass, I’m not really shedding a tear since to me that’s just like endorsing what he did.  Not to mention the buck has to stop somewhere and some of his subordinates obviously felt they could get away with destroying evidence.

Because if you’re going to drink and drive, do it as a cop.  Not only will you get paid during your leave, your buddies will destroy evidence to protect you.

SSCC #28–Indy PD

IMPD says Officer Kyle Fleck, who joined the department in February 2010, hit a car parked at the Fashion Mall at Keystone Crossing at around 7:30 pm Thursday. Witnesses told other officers that they saw the marked police car hit the parked car. The officer then parked his car in front of the mall and went inside to find the owner of the car.

As Tam has shown this is a reoccurring theme with the IMPD.  Honestly I think Tam’s snark on this hit says it best.  Seriously I don’t have much else to add.

Because if you’re a cop, drunk driving is in no way dangerous to yourself or the public.  I mean the law just applies to the little people right?

SSCC #379–Indianapolis

This one’s here merely because of the history of the IMPD in this count already.  Namely this, this and this.

An Indiana State trooper arrested an off-duty Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer on drunk driving charges early Sunday morning.

I am shocked, shocked I tell you.  How is it another anointed individual of the IMPD was able to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated.  I have been informed numerous times that action is against the law and people keep telling me the law will stop crime and criminals!

At least this individual wasn’t on duty or in a police vehicle.  You just have to appreciate the little things he did do.

State Sponsored Criminal #279: Daniel Kepler

Because drinking and driving is only bad when you’re not a member of the Indianapolis Metro Police Department.

SSCC Honorable Mention–Washington State Patrol

Via Ry comes this try out for the IMPD.

State patrol troopers got quite a shock Sunday when the reckless driver they were chasing turned out to be one of their own.

This wasn’t a simple case of weaving and getting pulled over though.

Investigators say Berthofl was driving near Tacoma on Sunday afternoon when he side-swiped a car that had slowed for a traffic jam.

Witnesses say Bertholf went around into the median. They followed him until troopers closed in. Despite the lights and sirens, troopers say Bertholf didn’t stop. When he finally did pull over, the troopers were shocked to learn he was a co-worker.

It gets worse because he an decorated officer specifically for his efforts in stopping drunk driving.  I was glad to see this:

But with Sunday’s arrest, WSP officials say it’s possible his law enforcement career is over.

"There’s a high likelihood," Huss said. "It’s very difficult for somebody, rightfully so, to fulfill a position in law enforcement when you have these types of serious allegations in place."

If he’s convicted and fired I’ll be more than willing to toss this into the accountabilibuddyable pile.  If he escapes firing I wouldn’t be surprised if he pays a call to the IMPD with his impressive service record against drunk driving.

State Sponsored Criminal Honorable Mention: David Bertholf

Because when you’re a cop who enforces drunk driving, you’re obviously special and an exemption to the rule
