Live Writer Blacklist Plugin

Joe has been running a Righthaven blacklist utility which has been quite handy.  If you don’t know why Joe would spend his time creating that web utility, or I would create a plugin to do it, see this.

I spent some of last weekend and this weekend making a blacklist utility for Windows Live Writer.  Today I finished up creating the MSI installer and have a preliminary version (0.1.0) to post into the wild.  Currently the blacklist is hardcoded into the plugin, the actual version (1.0.0) is going to support web updates to the blacklist, along with an additional feature of grey listing.

The grey list will make sure that “no follow” tags are attached to any link that has a domain that matches one in the list.

The default state just puts up a message box with the offending anchor text but the post will still succeed.  You can change this by checking the error on post check box in the options.  You can add your own URLs to the user list.

Play with it, tell me if you find any bugs or issues you would like me to change or features you would like me to add.  I’m going to create a projects website tomorrow with support contact information.  For now just use this contact form.

WLW URL Blacklist Plugin.

Update: I fixed the msi download. It’s now in a zip. It appears the mime-type for the msi is wrong. I’ve tried changing the htaccess but it is still broken. I am just going to use the .zips from now on. It cut the file size in half anyway.

This is my shocked face…

Dave Hardy over at Of Arms and the Law just posted something that has me completely non-shocked.

Of what a prosecutor friend once told me — that he was appalled to think of how all the power given a prosecutor these days could be used to entire ruin an honest man, or one who had made some minor error. Here’s a case from the 11th Circuit, applying what appears to be established law, holding that the prosecutor and his agents are mostly protected by absolute or lesser forms of immunity from a civil rights lawsuit.

My dad always told me a couple things regarding the law.

  1. There is no correlation between the law and justice.
  2. Prosecutors live by the mantra, “It takes a good prosecutor to convict a guilty man, it takes a great prosecutor to convict an innocent one.”

Recently Uncle posted about a DA offering bonuses to prosecutors who hit conviction targets.  I’m seriously beginning to wonder if they are using convictions to just strip honest people of their rights and make them subservient to the state.

It’s Official, HB 1016 has Passed

This afternoon Governor Gregoire signed HB 1016, the suppressor bill into law. It passed the senate overwhelmingly as well as the house.

What this means:

  • 90 days from now the end of session this law will go into effect. At that time you will be legally able to discharge any suppressor you legally own under the NFA. You’re good as of July, 23rd.
  • No longer must you go out of state to protect your ears and use a common safety device, we finally won this skirmish here in Washington.

Next on the docket from the people who did more of the leg work is a change to allow SBRs. As that moves forward I will keep you all up to date.

Thank you to everyone who wrote in and contacted their legislators to help make this happen.

Reasoned Discourse By Force of Government

The President has decided to create a new position in the White House, Director of Progressive Media & Online response to remove any negative media about him from the public eye.

Lee will essentially be responsible for building up Obama’s online presence as he prepares for his reelection bid, and squashing any negative stories

Translation: Remove all negative commentary that is derogatory towards reelection despite the truth.  Use the power of government and the threat of force to silence anyone who would dare speak out against the second coming of Jesus our fearless leader.

This is going to go over as well as chocolate over pork.  These are the few things that our dear President doesn’t seem to realize or understand, especially since he still thinks it’s 2008

  1. The internets are forever.  Just because you demand something be removed doesn’t mean it’s gone.
  2. The first amendment protects speech by the people from the interference of government, including elected officials.  As the American public is going to be funding this position will this individual also remove false and derogatory statements about others running for election?  In all likelihood, this individual will be issuing statements to websites that he would remove if it were about the President.
  3. Doing something like this is completely contrary to his transparency policy on government.
  4. It is yet another example of the government attempting to meddle and control the people without regard for the law or legislative process.  There is a large group of people who don’t like this type of behavior.

The Führer President is attempting to stifle criticism and speech about him.  Soon there will be a politburo which will censor all writing prior to publishing.  It is disconcerting that so many people do not take issue with this type of behavior or see a problem with it and would ignore the fact that these same individuals are asking to be vested with the power to shut down the internet.  Then again there are people who respond with “Heavy Boots.”

Note: I will not remove any information that is critical of the President or any other elected official.  While the President is deserving of the respect granted him by the office, that does not render him able to do anything without criticism.  Any federal or state employee works for me and I can be critical of how they conduct their business, treat my rights, and behave while spending my money.  The office does not make them a pure soul, they are like you and me, a human being.  If the elected representative dislikes the criticism maybe they should alter their behavior to decrease criticism by me and others like me.

H/T: The Minutewoman

For Every Other District but Ours

Waiver after waiver is being thrown to exempt different companies from the requirements created by ObamaCare.  What is most interesting is there are tons of waivers being issued for companies who reside in congressional districts who voted for ObamaCare.

Why does a waiver system exist considering “everyone is equal under the law?”  Yet we see the following in the news recently:

As American families are being squeezed by increasing health insurance premiums as well as rising gasoline and grocery prices, I’m sure they’ll be relieved to know that San Francisco’s down-and-out millionaires will be protected from paying Obamacare’s bills. Mercifully, Mrs. Pelosi’s limousine liberals will no longer be forced to beg for Grey Poupon from every Rolls-Royce passing by.

Followed by:

Weiner, who is likely to run for mayor of New York, said that because of the city’s special health care infrastructure, his office was looking into alternatives that might make more sense. Weiner is one of the health care law’s biggest supporters; during the debate leading up to reform, he was one of the last holdouts in Congress for the public option.

The list continues but the issue is obvious.  The representatives who were “representing us” forced an ill conceived bill down our throats and exempted themselves and their voters from the repercussions.  There are people in the rafters who are screaming, “But this will bring health care to the masses” as well as, “This will help create jobs and employ the unemployed.”  Mrs. Pelosi even claimed the following:

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once famously said that we’d have to pass ObamaCare to see what was in it. She also boasted that the health care bill would create 4 million jobs — "400,000 of them almost immediately."

The facts, so pesky aren’t they, state something completely different.  The CBO announced recently the following statements regarding the impact of ObamaCare.

Contradicting Mrs. Pelosi, CBO director Douglas Elmendorf told the House Budget Committee on Thursday that one of the unintended consequences of ObamaCare would be a reduction in employment by half a percent by 2021.

This comes out, according to the article, to 800,000 jobs destroyed by ObamaCare.  The reason these people want waivers is they are getting caught in their lie.  They are now forcing the rest of us to live the horrors of the law they created while they exempt their constituents.  The following describes this whole situation the best:

Selective enforcement of the law is the first sign of tyranny. A government empowered to determine arbitrarily who may operate outside the rule of law invariably embraces favoritism as friends, allies and those with the best-funded lobbyists are rewarded. Favoritism inevitably leads to corruption, and corruption invites extortion. Ultimately, the rule of law ceases to exist in any recognizable form, and what is left is tyranny.

This behavior by our elected officials smacks of, “we know best”.  Now that it’s discovered to be poison those who didn’t want to eat it to begin with are going to be forced to die while letting the others who supported it vomit.  The law is to be applied equally to us all.  If some are exempted, the law should be repealed.  Where’s the tar and feathers?

H/T to Uncle.

But you live in Rural Washington?

I often have people look at me funny when I tell them other than work, where carry is prohibited, I am ALWAYS carrying.  Seriously, I visit friends from work and the first few times they see me outside of work and they’re surprised because I wasn’t joking.

Often the question is posed by some that I live in rural Washington so when is someone going to really attack me.  The thing is, a gun is a tool.  Works on two and four legged varmints just the same.  Four legged varmints out here can be just as deadly as the two legged.  I saw a wonderful reminder today.

A "bloodthirsty" pack of dogs has killed about 100 animals in the past few months while eluding law enforcement and volunteers in northeastern Washington state, residents and authorities said.

Most recently, the dogs killed a 350-pound llama Tuesday night. They’ve also killed goats and other farm animals.

As of this writing no humans have been killed yet, but if they’re taking down large animals it’s only a matter of time.  Carrying a firearm is merely being prepared for the unexpected.  Could be an animal or a human, either way I’m going to remain vertical relative to the varmint trying to do me harm.

Cops, Parades, and Open Carry

No surprise to the rest of us though absolutely NOTHING happened.  While at the Genesee community days today the wife and I were open carrying.  There were numerous sheriffs deputies and state patrol walking around the area.  While there we saw something quite interesting form in the sky.

We stopped and chatted with the local sheriff after spotting a funnel cloud and took the opportunity for pictures.

DSC_0830

We actually chatted with him for an extended period of time about open carry and different things he’s run into.  Evidently people often come up to him when working events like this and the county fair informing him of people who are carrying firearms.  His response to them is usually along of lines of, "and this is a problem because.”  It reminded me of the Pullman PD officer I met who looked at the person freaking out and pointed at the gun on his hip and said, “I have a gun, what’s the difference?”

DSC_0831

It’s Idaho and as he put it, “It’s all that remains of the Western frontier.”  It’s talking with officers like him that reminds me while some are driving the us versus them wedge, it is by no means all officers doing it.  Especially since he has evidently gone to Boomershoot.  I told him he needs to come again.

To further put the icing on the cake, I gave Mike one of my blogger cards.  He had mentioned having a holster shirt but couldn’t remember the manufacturer.  After I was going to finish this post I was going to email him for the brand.  In my email I just got a message from him.  He has one of these and really likes it.  Anywhere else that whole exchange would probably have been forgotten.

There was a nice car show, here’s a simple set I did.

ChevyBelair

I got a bunch of pictures from the car show as well, but those will be processed slowly and will probably end up dumped on my photography site.

Quote of the Day – Munchkin Wrangler (07/19/2012)

Nobody builds a business alone, that’s true. But Bob didn’t make all those people work for free, and he didn’t make use of public resources without writing hefty tax checks for the privilege. Bob paid everyone, including his local, state, and federal government, before he even got to make his first dollar of profits. And Bob carries all the risk here. If his business tanks, his contractors aren’t going to return the money he gave them for their work, his employees aren’t going to give back their wages, and the government isn’t going to return the taxes and fees he paid. So why is it OK that when he’s successful enough to make a profit, some populist asshole politicians can stand up and say that “he hasn’t paid his fair share to society yet”?

Munchkin Wrangleryou didn’t build that
July 16th, 2012

[I do love the comments about what it took to build a business coming from a man who’s never built or run a business in his life. Businesses take work, period. There is risk and there is one person who takes that risk and the reward for the risk is the potential for profit. But profit is the result of greed and corruption right?  That person who has poured blood sweat and tears working their ass off so they don’t fail shouldn’t get any reward.

Why should they get no reward, you see someone else actually built their business. The business owner didn’t spend late nights with no bonus pay keeping the ship afloat.  They haven’t spent hours working on a website with zero income coming from it at the beginning.  Who cares that the business operator has paid anyone who works for them a fair wage in exchange for their goods and services?

That’s the crux, people who are paid by the business owner didn’t build the business.  People who build a business invest considerable time and effort without the guarantee of a reward.  That in and of itself is the very nature of business and is known as your Return on Investment.

Building a business means you invest a lot of time and your own money that in the future you may end up with more than you had.  Evidently our fearless leader has some other shining example of what building a business looks like.

*Most annoyingly is some places charge you a fee merely for permission to conduct business.  You see you need a business license to sell things to people who would like your goods and services.  You pay for the privilege but if for one reason or another you take a year off, you get to pay the tax man for the privilege again.  See how that works?  The government has to get theirs or you can’t get yours. -B]
