Welcome to the New Server

If you are reading this prior to or just after 2300 hours 1/2/2012 Pacific Time.  Congratulations your ISP is using the proper TTL.  If this post did not show up for you (on the website), email your ISP and let them know they’re being a bunch of douche bags.  24 hours for a TTL is more than reasonable.  If this finally appeared after 2300 hours 1/3/2012, well your ISP is just evil.

I screwed the pooch and missed updating this domain until 1/3/2012 at 0730 Pac Time.  Google was relatively quick along with a few other DNS services in incorporating this change.  So all should see this come 0800 1/4/2012.  My email has been in purgatory.  If you sent anything Sunday or Monday it may have been sent to the gods due to an Exchange import mistake on my part.  All should be good to go now though.  Seriously if you sent anything important over the past couple days, feel free to resend it.

It took me quite literally all day Sunday to download all of the files for the different domains.  Upload the files necessary to bootstrap this site, and get all of the database stuff taken care of.  Overall it appears that it went without much of a problem.  I actually am writing this at 2200 hours 1/1/2012 and am debating moving a few of the other domains at the same time.  The hardest part of all of this is taking care of email during the change over.  I have decided to bite the bullet and execute the change for all but three domains.  One is because of the effort, the other two have no rush tied to their move.

Slow Blogging

So after a year I actually did quite well.  My goal was to make at least a post a day and I came in with 657 posts over 2011, which comes out to 1.8 posts a day.

Since I met that goal and surpassed it my goal for this year is to average 2 posts a day.  Along with that I want to further document some of my projects I’ve been doing here at home.

Leading off with the above you might wonder why I would title this “Slow Blogging”.  Well if you remember a few months ago I started running into problems with the hosting provider.  I have since created a small pool of cash and am going to begin the migration of my sites starting today.  This will have a couple effects, the biggest is getting the DNS information to change over.  So my blog may look static for the next couple days as I migrate it.  Along with this will also be some minor hiccups in mail as I move the Exchange hosting as well.

There are a few sites which are going to remain static for a while because the move is going to be quite difficult.  I did find a hosting provider who provides Exchange services.  Ultimately I think eventually if the sites I maintain grow enough, including a new project, I will migrate to a VPS and find dedicated email hosting at a separate entity, possibly hosting myself if I can get the bandwidth.  Right now my goals are to limit my interactions with the hosting side and focus on the web side.

So for at least the next 72 hours expect the site to be silent, probably longer as I figure out how to move everything over.  I’ve got to get my email moved as well and the hardest part of that currently is ensuring they use the correct domain for the exchange system.

SSCC #229 – Pompton Lakes

When Pompton Lakes police seized Darren Richardson’s car on a rainy September afternoon, they told him it was headed for an impound lot. When they returned it three weeks later, he says, the 2004 BMW belonged in a junk yard.

So the police trashed a car looking for drugs, they must have found a bunch right?  Wrong!

So what did police find after their $12,000 search?

Absolutely nothing.

Every time they searched the car and found nothing, they doubled down on their stupidity and called in another “expert” and another dog to find where to search.  Here’s the thing that bugs me about drug dogs, they are not infallible and they are trained through a reward system to find drugs.  The false positive rate on dogs is actually decently high.  Yet these dumb asses doubled down ever time to the final tune of $12,636.42.  All because initially an officer smelled a strong scent of Mary Jane.

To top it all off it appears this whole incident was caused by “contempt of cop”.

Because when you someone starts arguing with you, just make crap up about drugs and then just trash their car.
