An officer was shot and killed during a robbery attempt today in Chicago. Mayor Daley is using this opportunity to say that a stricter handgun ban would have prevented the shooting.
The 30-year-old officer was shot as he left his father’s house on the South Side early Thursday morning by would be robbers.
“If this person didn’t have this, never happened,” the mayor said, holding up a handgun on display for the news conference.
Mayor Daley, how is it a criminal is going to obey your law? Aren’t criminals defined by the fact that they break the law?
“Access to guns in America, everybody can have guns, doesn’t matter who they are, doesn’t matter if they have a criminal record, or not, they have access to guns and that’s the most frustrating issue.”
They have access to guns in your view because they can break the law and steal them. How do you believe we should solve this issue? By making good disarmed victims for the criminals to prey upon. Smart thinking there, where did you get your degree, Head Up Rear University? Mayor Daley has a city with crime completely out of control with some of the most strict gun control in the country. However instead of blaming crime on his failed policies and admitting he was wrong, he just continues to create excuses.
It is most ironic that it was the officer’s father who carried a firearm that dealt with the threat.
In the Wortham case, the officer’s father, a retired Chicago Police officer, rushed to his son’s aid. Using his own handgun– retired police officers are allowed to legally keep their weapons– he shot two of the suspects, killing one of them.
It’s amazing what can happen when one is allowed to defend themselves. The retired officer was allowed to carry a gun. So instead of being dependent upon his phone and the police department; he was instead allowed to be self-reliant. As such, he survived and was able to shoot two of the suspects. Mayor Daley, I suggest you remove your head from a particular body cavity, stop acting like a bigot, and take a serious look around. Your policies are killing your citizens, not firearms. What are the real reasons behind your incessant disarmament of honest law abiding citizens?
To some lawmakers, carrying around an empty gun seems threatening. In a quick response to this perceived but non-threat, AB1934 was drafted to make it a crime to carry an empty firearm in plain view. The bill’s author, Assemblywoman Lori Saldaña, D-San Diego, is quoted as saying, “What I’m concerned about is people, who have no training, can carry a gun for no other purpose than to make a public statement.”
California is a may-issue state. Translation for the uninitiated; do you like kissing ass? Because if you want a license, start kissing your local sheriffs ass. People to protest this have been doing protests legally by carrying unloaded firearms openly. Instead of looking at the flaws in the process, she intends to further restrict and punish law abiding citizens. I find it interesting that some law makers are uncomfortable by firearms being in possession of their constituents, is it because they’re afraid that one day they may be held accountable for their actions?
Son, don’t go pointing guns at people unless you mean it!

You must always treat any firearm as if it was loaded, as such when someone shows a firearm it is presumed to be loaded. Just because you’re waving around an unloaded firearm doesn’t mean anyone else knows it’s unloaded.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine told Action 3 News that 18-year-old Marquail Thomas had no shells in his shotgun, but may have been aiming at customer Harry McCullough when he was shot.
This is yet another example of people who don’t have proper firearms training passing judgment. There is not a gigantic neon arrow pointing to the gun that says “Unloaded”. The presumption is that every firearm is loaded, even when you know otherwise. Hind sight is always 20-20, just because more comes to light doesn’t mean it was a bad decision. The judgment of the decision must be made within the context of the information available at the time.
I’m really not concerned by the below, though I do find it kind of interesting. I wonder if it is the prospective new police chief for Pullman.

Doing research on who to put on the naughty list maybe? As I said before I hope that he is not a stereotypical southern Californian police officer, and who knows he may actually be a really nice guy. Even if he is stereotypical, the officers are the ones I usually interface with. Yes it’s always been good.
It’s just it is just damn scary. I’m glad I don’t live in Pullman anymore, for more reasons than just that; though small town cops are awesome!
Apparently there was a TV crew along for the raid Sunday night that cost a 7 year old girl her life. It has now come out that the account of the struggle with the woman is not accurate.
“There is no question about what happened because it’s in the videotape,” Fieger said. “It’s not an accident. It’s not a mistake. There was no altercation.”
“Aiyana Jones was shot from outside on the porch. The videotape shows clearly the officer throwing through the window a stun grenade-type explosive and then within milliseconds of throwing that, firing a shot from outside the home,” he said.
Any shooter will tell you that you always verify your target and what is beyond it! This man fired blindly into a house, and look what happened as a result. If I discharged my firearm in defense of myself and hit someone behind a wall my ass is in deep crap. Why, because I violated the rule previously mentioned. This man was in no immediate threat to life or limb, yet felt it necessary to discharge his firearm which then resulted in the death of this young girl.
SWAT teams serve a purpose, however they are often used in ways that are completely unnecessary. As Tam put it, SWATing flies with a hammer, and not doing so well. It appears that police departments nowadays will use any justification to bring out the SWAT team, at this point I believe to ensure that its funding is not cut. What better way to do this than make a show for the camera.
Two prominent criminal defense attorneys said they were unaware of past instances when Detroit police used flash grenades in raids when children were possibly present.
“That’s a new one,” said Detroit lawyer Corbett Edge O’Meara. “That does seem to be a pretty extreme measure. It doesn’t surprise me that the police had no concern whether they were endangering the lives of children when they made this raid.”
I find it doubly ironic that after this now infamous event they then charged the parents with child endangerment. Video of that raid. Police no longer have to fear the law because they are above it. The police no longer serve us, we are merely here for their amusement when they get bored.
I hope that officer is pleased with his actions and he is correctly charged and not shielded from his negligence just because he happens to be a police officer. I doubt it will happen, Lon Horiuchi got away with killing Vicki Weaver while she held her baby, why is this any different?
I heard an extremely inspiring story from Snowflakes in Hell indicating the proof that we’re winning the war in the fight for self-defense and firearms.
I’m trying to think of something to add, but wow. To collect that many cans and to part with the result when he could have very well used the money himself says more than anyone else possibly could. It does remind me though that the most common personality trait I see in the gun community is very giving and helpful. The first year I went to Boomershoot, 100% of the proceeds from the raffle went to Soldiers Angels. The prize winners just gave the cash back to Joe. Obviously we have something to offer that the other side does not. This still hasn’t gone above 20 bucks and I first saw it 2 weeks ago.
