Earlier last week an incident was reported from the Peoples Republik of Massachusetts.  Shortly after the Gifford’s shooting an individual posted the following comment on his blog, “1 down and 534 to go”.

Personally I find this comment extremely distasteful and not the best way to attract positive attention.  That said however, he has every right to say it.  I am in no way supporting what he said, but I am stating he had every right to say it.  Without interference from the government.

Just because someone states something you dislike or do not agree with does not provide cause or reason to infringe on their rights.  In this case the police used someone’s statements, that are protected by the first amendment, to revoke the person’s second amendment rights.  Anyone who does not see this attack for what it is, or is standing on the sidelines because of what he said, it is your rights being attacked just the same.

Why can someone create a movie about the assassination of the president, but to make a comment such as this is wrong?

I am sure that on my site, I have written things that some may find to be inflammatory or threatening.  For this reason, I am TJIC.  I don’t like what he said, but I will fight for his right to say it.

GPS and Phones

Stealing a cell phone isn’t a bright idea.  Police used the GPS capability to catch a robbery suspect by locating the phone of one the victims.  Remember that, if others can look up your location through Google, or some other service, obviously it can be used against you.  The lesson to remember here is this, when doing something stupid, leave your phone at home, and don’t steal a replacement for the one you left at home.

For the record I’m glad the guy got caught, this is more of just a friendly reminder.  When taking care of your Jews in the Attic, leave it at home.

The quick and dirty synopsis though is that an individual was shooting on the back of his property. A neighbor heard the shots and called the police. The officers responding over reacted, and proceeded to perform an illegal search of his house as well as locked containers within the house. After nothing was really found, they made up excuses for searching the premises and stretched for reasons for the arrest. They also confiscated his firearms. All the charges were dropped, however the sheriff’s office has returned all but 4 firearms. What is most interesting though is that those four firearms were mentioned by officers as wanting to keep for their own.

This officer had no clue of the situation or what going on. However before even arriving there he state he was going to be arresting someone for anything he could find. When nothing was immediately available they proceeded to perform an illegal search of the house. This was done under the guise of exigent circumstances. When they saw the safe, they extended the exigent circumstances to the interior of the safe. Then each officer proceeded to pick out which guns they like best after ripping the keys off of the victim to get into the safe.

The locked safe provides no basis for exigent circumstances. Securing the house I could somewhat believe, however all they were allowed to do during the exigent search was verify the house was empty. Upon finding the safe, if they wanted to search it a warrant must be obtained. There was no immediate threat to officers, and if probable cause existed that the safe contained evidence pertinent to the crime being investigated a warrant would be issued. Instead they conducted a search without consent and made up an excuse that a dying family member may have been contained in the safe. Never mind the fact that the safe was too small, or the fact there was no blood or any other evidence to support that fact.

This is obviously an abuse of this man’s civil rights. However this man who only was able to enlist the help of a public defender was railroaded by the system. The only hope is now that this is flying around the tubes someone will take the case and go after those officers for violating Title 18, U.S.C. Section 242. This is such a blatant and serious violation of civil rights and abuse of authority it is a mystery why those officers were not publicly dismissed. It is not surprising that this happened in Californistan, however this is still disturbing because it is completely unacceptable behavior.

Uncle a while ago posted something about the Green Police Audi Super Bowl ad. I fell over laughing at the “Ford Earthfucker” statement and immediately wanted to add my trucks to the list. Phil was able to add his truck however all three of my rigs are work rigs and in the environment where I live, even not working they get a nice coat of dust. Well, today I was finally able to clean all three and set them up for a picture.

There is Earthfucker Sr. on the left. A 1997 F350 with a 460 under the hood, and gets me a whopping 11.5 MPG highway, around 9 towing anything serious. In the middle is Earthfucker lite. A 2008 Ford Explorer and gets around 20 mpg on the highway, with the hills around here though more like 18.5-19.5 depending on how I feel like driving. Lastly is Earthfucker Jr. A 2010 F350 Super Duty, with a 6.4 liter Powerstroke diesel and a manual transmission. That gets around 20 MPG highway, and can pull my boat up the Lewiston grade at 75 mph with room to keep going.

Many have given me crap about having three large working vehicles. However given the winters around here at times, I don’t want a small car. I want a vehicle that will get me from point A to B without letting me down. The previous Earthfucker lite performed remarkably when my wife walked away from a serious rollover after hitting black ice. We had a small car once during winter, never again. I might feel differently if I didn’t live in the middle of nowhere and have this strong desire towards self reliance. I spend a lot of time during winter helping pull people out and throw up flares at accidents. The large vehicles do not equal being able to fly around, it’s just the ground clearance, power, and weight helps if you’re patient and know how to drive in snow. I could drive a small car, but it’s not my skills I’m worried about, it’s the other people on the road. Especially college students, hence the bull killer on senior.

So I came across this online tonight, “A gun took his son, now Rock Hill dad puzzled by NRA rally.” I fail to understand how the gun magically pointed itself at your son, pulled its own trigger, and then hopped in the car and drove off.

In 1998, Krenn’s 16-year-old son, Erik, was dropping off a buddy on Rock Hill’s South Jones Avenue when four guys carjacked Erik.

Oh wait, it was four individuals that car-jacked your son Erik, pointed the firearm at your son, and then pulled the trigger. These four individuals had no respect for the law then, what makes you think that banning firearms from the hands of law abiding citizens is going to change anything.

Reading the article though, we can tell there is absolutely zero bias and this was in no way written by a bigot.

Erik was shot with a Saturday Night Special handgun, and died. Among them, the four scoundrels got 120 years in prison.

Oh wait, Saturday Night Special, that’s the term coined by politicians to prevent poor blacks from being able to buy firearms for self defense from the Klan in the south. But that statement isn’t bigoted at all.

Not hunting guns, or sportsmen’s guns – Krenn isn’t worried about people deer hunting – but handguns and assault rifles.

So he’s just concerned about people being able to defend themselves and a class of rifles whose definition changes on the whim of politicians. Assault weapons bans actually focus on banning safety features. A pistol grip, a collapsible stock, and a barrel shroud all serve to aid in usability, prevent injury, and tailor the rifle to the operator.

The loss of his son hurts; however blaming that on inanimate objects is not the solution and will not help his grief. The men who committed that atrocious crime are responsible, not the gun. One final question, if defensive firearms are banned, how would one defend themselves from an armed criminal? The police obviously did not save your son, so you cannot expect us to believe that lie. Response is measured in minutes, combat takes seconds. You sir want to rob law abiding citizens of their ability to save their own lives. This woman would be dead if you had your way. This woman would still have her husband if it was not for bigots like yourself.

My suggestion is to seek some grief counseling and seek treatment for your Hoplophobia. Attacking law abiding citizens and forcing them to end up victims like your son serves no purpose. If I had a son who ended up a victim because of your bigotry I would have every reason to be angry because he was robbed of the liberty of self-defense. Your son was the victim of criminals, not an inanimate object.

This is by no means the first time a horrible idea like this has come up, but this is just unbelievable. 

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has issued a letter instructing state police to release the names of authorized gun owners in Illinois to the press, the Associated Press is reporting.

Why would anyone think this is a good idea?  Whose business is it who owns a firearm.  All this serves to do is provide a shopping list for criminals.  They know which houses are armed and which houses are not.  They know which houses to wait until the owner leaves which will have another weapon for them, and which houses are unarmed to invade after stealing the weapon.  It’s a shopping list for criminals.    Not only that though, it provides a starting place for bigots to find and harass gun owners.

Waiting for someone else to solve your problems is not a solution. I came to this realization in high school when I worked as a lifeguard at scout camp. If a swimmer went missing it was at least 15 minutes before a rescue dive team could be on site. After 15 minutes odds are you’re recovering a corpse to give his parents to bury. During those 15 minutes though the lifeguards are still actively searching and working to find the missing swimmer. Though not as effective as scuba divers, it’s better than nothing. The idea that help is on the way never enters the mind because who cares about 15 minutes from now, they need help NOW.

While one could say being a lifeguard obligated us, that doesn’t change the fact though anyone can train to help in an emergency. If someone attempts to rob myself or my wife, my first instinct is not going to be to grab my phone and dial 911 for help. Statistically by the time they show up they’ll be placing me in a body bag. Instead I will react in defense of wife and myself. Why, because I can not tell the attacker to wait while I call the police, and then to wait again while they respond. Waiting for help just allows the problem to continue getting worse.

In dive training you learn to control your instinct to panic and think problems through. Why, because at 60 feet all that is there is you and your dive buddy. Panicking will most likely get you and your buddy killed. I had good instructors who regularly threw unexpected failures at us including things that would cause panic. By the end I learned to recognize panic much like when people realize they’re “behind the power curve.” More importantly when you’re panicking you’re doing the same thing as waiting for help.
