SSCC #458–I.C.E.

Anthony V. Mangione, who headed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s South Florida office for four years, possessed up to 150 images of child pornography, some depicting the "extreme abuse of children," according to federal prosecutors.

He was busted while still working for ICE.  This one’s bad and I’m not going to comment on it.  This one makes the count because:

As the Special Agent in Charge of ICE’s South Florida office, Mangione supervised more than 400 employees in nine counties. He was regularly at the forefront of arrests of child pornography suspects, vowing to see them punished.

SSCC #410 – Moulton

A Moulton police officer charged Thursday with torture and willful abuse of a child had resigned from the Decatur police force in 2010 after his estranged wife accused him of assaulting her and threatening her with a gun.

He should have been fired especially in light of the following that has recently occurred.

Breland, of 3050 Byler Road, Moulton, is charged with two counts of torture, willful abuse of a child, authorities said. The charge is a Class C felony punishable by 1-10 years in prison if convicted.

Breland, who has been with the Moulton Police Department for more than a year, has been on administrative leave with pay since Aug. 29.

Moulton Police Chief Lyndon McWhorter said he placed Breland on leave after the Morgan County Department of Human Resources reported allegations involving an 8-year-old girl and that an investigation had been launched.

That’s right folks, he screwed up, was able to resign instead of being fired.  As a FYI though this isn’t just a case of someone disliking the way he disciplined his children either.

Reports indicate the child was beaten so severely she had to be taken to the hospital. Medical personnel there contacted DHR.

Why he hasn’t been fired who knows.  I find it interesting though most private companies will fire you if you step in something this bad.  Those charged with enforcing the law though get a free pass for violating the law.

Most disturbing was there was a history that certainly should have put him in the no longer eligible for law enforcement pool.

Imagine that, a monster that has a history.  Is it really that hard to spot these monsters or is it that we just wont do what we need to stop them?

Quote of the Day – Robb Allen(10/8/2012)

My girls weren’t as into Sesame Street as I was as a kid, but they did enjoy it and I would gladly fork over a few bucks to keep them on the air if it was required. However, I’ll do it voluntarily. Put the tax man’s gun to my head and demand it and suddenly I’ve got no desire for the show to go on.

[Honestly, go read the whole thing.  It’s amazing the number of people who don’t seem to understand that small numbers do accumulate to a big one.

Sesame Street gets a large amount of support from the public without forcible conscription from the government.  So pardon me if I don’t start crying at the idea of trying to lessen our burden of debt.

Folks, you need to realize something and the sooner the better. We’re broke.  We’re spending more than we’re bringing in and the debt isn’t just our’s, it’s our children’s.  Tell me, how would you like it if instead of getting an inheritance or rather nothing at all, your parents left you 15 years of mortgage payments for a house that was underwater?  Borrowing against your kids future isn’t fair, it isn’t ethical, it’s merely robbing your kids.  You’re signing checks in your kids name, not your own.

I’m became down right angry about when I became old enough to understand the national debt and discovered my share of it.  I hadn’t even started a job yet and there was debt in my name that I honestly never wanted to be a part of.

And for what?  So women like this can have a phone?  So that we can fund shows that could survive on their own through public funding?  So that I can pay for someone to survive that is too lazy to work?  So that ultimately I suffer an extra burden of supporting others and their personal morals so they can feel better about themselves?

Ever last little pet project needs to start being deleted.  You don’t need to just go and attack things that are a large single chunk, you need to cut all the small stuff that adds up.  A million here and a million there, eventually you’re talking very serious money.  It adds up to the tune now of over 16 trillion dollars, which makes the debt for every man woman and child $51,370.

Now the thing is, not everyone pays taxes.  If you’re a taxpayer, your debt burden is $141,142 dollars.  That’s right, our government has spent so much that you could buy a house for what you now owe from them writing checks in your name.

News flash for everyone, yes it’s going to hurt, yes it’s going to suck.  There maybe some things that don’t survive.  But the fact is, total economic collapse is going to be even more painful.  Eventually your bill has to come due, the question is, why is it so many keep on insisting on making it bigger.  Don’t answer that, I already know. -B]

Not a Friend to Gun Rights…

We’ve said this for a while but every once in a while someone bats for Obama saying how he hasn’t done anything against gun rights, much less said he would do anything to infringe on the Second Amendment.   Still think Obama is all sunshine and unicorn farts when it comes to the Second Amendment?

Well, a serious hat tip to Dave Hardy on this one, here it is right out of the horse’s mouth.

Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

(Emphasis mine.)  And just to make sure it doesn’t go down the memory hole, here’s a screen shot of the entire page as of 1330 PDT October 10th, 2012.

Remember these facts when going to the polls or talking with others.  He is not a supporter of the Second Amendment and if he had his way personal ownership of firearms would be outlawed tomorrow.

Lets not even get started on the Fast and Furious debacle either.  As always, vote out the incumbents.

SSCC #430–Billings

A 12-year-old girl suffered burns to one side of her body when a flash grenade went off next to her as a police SWAT team raided a West End home Tuesday morning.

Why would an officer feel he needed to throw a flash-bang towards a small young child?

Police Chief Rich St. John said the 6 a.m. raid at 2128 Custer Ave., was to execute a search warrant as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation by the City-County Special Investigations Unit.

Ahh, the war on drugs.  Supposedly they felt this to be a high threat raid, except no one bothered to take into account the two small children in the house.  Instead they felt it to be a better option to kick down the door, break windows, and emotionally scar them since you know, knocking on the door and serving the warrant would be some how bad.

The real clue is that no charges have been field, the police claim they found evidence, of what who knows.  Most likely they will use that “evidence” as leverage to prevent legal action on their negligence.

State Sponsored Criminal #430: The Billings SWAT Team

Because by no means should an officer use his own brain to think whether or not “X” is a good idea or actually required.  Even more so, hand the potentially dangerous material to someone too stupid to wait till it goes off before letting it go.

Quote of the Day – Barack Obama(10/17/2012)

“What I’m trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence generally, part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced.”

Barack Obama – Presidential Debate
October 16th, 2012

[All of you who kept telling me that Obama wasn’t coming for my guns, shut the hell up.  That statement above makes it clear as day that we have a problem.  We have gone down this road before and it did not do anything to solve the problems it was claimed to solve.  What it did do was prevent thousands of Americans from getting effective defensive arms.  Any individual who supports a law like that is not looking out for the best for anyone.

It is becoming obvious to even those who wish to keep their heads in the sand that this man is the enemy of freedom we all thought he was.  Looks like I will be investing in more firearms and ammunition right quick.

Updated to add: I forgot that about a week ago I did this post, which quotes right off of Obama’s campaign website.  His site stated the following:

Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

Screenshot of the site can be seen here.  The fact remains that this man has no qualms about outlawing the most popular rifle in America and we also know it is a slippery slope to other restrictions.  We learned our lesson and it must be said, “Never Again!” -B ]

SSCC #446 – DHS

A 43-year-old Department of Homeland Security worker allegedly used Facebook to solicit more than 70 area children for sexual acts, according to authorities.

We’re not talking high school students either…

Robert B. Rennie Jr., a Loudoun County resident, was charged Oct. 24 with five counts of using a computer to solicit a child under the age of 15, after a school resource officer was tipped off to suspicious activity on a Mercer Middle School student’s Facebook page.

Sounds like a fine upstanding government employee doesn’t it?  I wish I could come up with something better, but this just makes me sick.

On Carelessness and Curiosity

I previously wrote about an entirely preventable incident.  I didn’t full realize though how much of a classic style incident that was.

Paul said Carlile, 31, was in a rush to get to a wedding with his family on March 10 when he got into the family’s van, put his off-duty handgun in a cupholder between the front seats and drove to Stanwood to drop off business cards at a friend’s store.

First off, getting a good gun and holster helps prevent this because it should get put on your belt, ankle, whatever and left there for the day.  If in needs to come off, the holster needs to come off with it.

Second is the thing people always seem to forget:

Carlile’s son, Steele, was a curious and active 3-year-old with a fascination with guns and a disdain for car seats, Paul said.

I’m not surprised by this, honestly no one should that’s ever been around kids.  Kids are naturally curious.  The best thing to do is satisfy their curiosity in a safe and controlled environment.  Most certainly though, never leave something around a curious kid that’s dangerous or deadly.

What the father did was careless and negligent given the fact they were leaving their children in the car.  Not to mention the fact he was leaving the firearm in plain sight for anyone walking by the vehicle.  That is otherwise known as a great way to have a weapon stolen.

The worst part about incidents like this is gun owners as a whole get a black eye because this man was “anointed“.  The argument of the banners being, “If he can’t properly handle a firearm, how can anyone else be expected to?”  Never mind the fact that we push education instead of prohibition.  Prohibition in this case probably lead to the accident.  It’s the appeal of the forbidden fruit left within arms reach.  The better option would be to satisfy curiosity whenever possible while reinforcing safety and discipline.
