What does a gun owner look like?

Apparently I don’t look like one.  A coworker of mine said she didn’t see me as a person who would shoot let alone carry a gun.  In other words, I don’t look like a bumbling redneck idiot or helpless, dumb blonde the media portrays gun owners to be.  She was even surprised that I am somewhat of a blogger, which is partially how the topic came up.

Joe Huffman is considered a “red-necked, knuckle-dragging, Neanderthal” and he has his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington.  He also currently works at Microsoft.  Why is it everyone thinks gun owners fit into some cookie cutter mold?

What are our politicians doing?

As the world focuses on Japan, what is happening right under our noses?  Anything newsworthy is being completely overshadowed.  I am not trying to be crass or insensitive, what’s happening in Japan is truly heartbreaking, but some things are being severely exaggerated and creating mass panic. The reality, however, is being buried and only those of us that question everything are finding the truth.

The mantra, “never let a good crisis go to waste,” is starting to come into play as the politicians attempt to sneak stuff in under the radar.  Just because this is not our crisis does not mean they won’t try to leverage it to their advantage.

Woohoo! Go Idaho!

While everyone was watching Wisconsin, Idaho slipped through the cracks and passed their own bill stripping public school teachers of collective bargaining rights

The Idaho bill, which excludes issues like class size and workloads from negotiations for the state’s 12,000 unionized teachers, was given final approval by the Republican-led House and is expected to be signed by Republican Governor Butch Otter.

Now, a day later than Idaho, Wisconsin steps aboard much to the dismay of union employees.

The bill’s passage by the state’s Republican-controlled Assembly in a 53-42 vote ended a three-week stalemate that saw the state’s 14 Senate Democrats flee to Illinois in a bid to stymie the measure and tens of thousands of people protest at the Capitol.

The unions are in such a tizzy over all of this that they are requiring a town in Connecticut to pay for coffee and milk that will be free to the union employees.  They even ordered the town to reinstate casual Fridays.

A Connecticut town must provide their union workers free coffee and milk, according to a ruling from the State Board of Labor Relations.

The board also ordered town leaders to reinstate “Dress Down Fridays” for the union clerical and custodial workers.

Will anyone ever learn that nothing comes free (RTWT)?

The biggest myth about labor unions is that unions are for the workers. Unions are for unions, just as corporations are for corporations and politicians are for politicians.

Utah is taking the wrong approach.

Story: a 17 year old pregnant girl pays a 21 year old guy to beat her in order to cause a late term miscarriage.

Utah’s solution: criminalize miscarriage caused by “reckless behavior”.

What defines reckless behavior?  Supposedly the Utah law makers just want to prevent such an atrocity from happening again.

There are several factors that should be addressed before jumping straight to amending the current laws on the books.  First, look at the reasoning behind the girl’s actions, her boyfriend threatened to leave her if she didn’t do something about the baby. Second, what is her mental status considering she paid someone to beat her up?  Third, she must have a super low self esteem is she is willing to stay with the asshole of a boyfriend.

The consequences that could come down from this new law would include criminalizing women who don’t actually do anything wrong.  Women who have a miscarriage could be brought under scrutiny by the courts and possibly have charges brought against them for a natural cause of death.  These women don’t need the emotional and psychological burden added to them by the legal system.  They will already be under a slew of emotions just from the loss of a miscarriage.  A miscarriage does not equal abortion no matter how one looks at it.  An abortion is intentional, a miscarriage is a naturally occurring tragedy for the mom.

Budget Woes and Taxes

Here we are in the middle of a recession depression and Alexander Rodriquez is essentially getting out of paying taxes. The greedy ass baseball player, with a contract of being the highest paid player, has now figured out how to avoid real estate taxes that the rest of us have to pay.

When Rodriguez’s moves into his $6 million, five-bedroom penthouse his tax bill will be $1,150. In contrast, Stephen and Phyllis Franciosa pay $3,100 in taxes one their one-family home in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx.

The middle class is repeatedly hosed on taxes, yet those that make large sums of money don’t have to pay a dime?  Taxes should have to be paid equally across the board, which means everyone pays the same amount.  Taxes should be a flat tax.  To take it further, everyone should pay the same dollar amount and not have it based on a flat income percentage.  People have no right to vote to raise taxes when they are not going to be paying it.  The idea of raising taxes on people who make more than $200k is simple for many who make less than $200k most are happy to say yes.  What right do they have to vote away someone else’s money?  For all intents and purposes they are taking it by force and putting it in their own pocket.

If you are receiving money from the public coffers, you have no business voting.  You are not actually paying or contributing to society, instead you are using force to make others support you.

“The Gipper” Obama is not.

Our fearless leader feels that he has the right to call himself “The Gipper”.  The only person, other than The Gipper himself, who has the right to call himself the Gipper is Ronald Reagan

The Gipper, for those who do not know, was a young college football player for The University of Notre Dame by the name of George Gipp.  He died at a young age from strep throat at a time when antibiotics weren’t available yet.  On his death bed this is what he said to his coach:

I’ve got to go, Rock. It’s all right. I’m not afraid. Some time, Rock, when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys, ask them to go in there with all they’ve got and win just one for the Gipper. I don’t know where I’ll be then, Rock. But I’ll know about it, and I’ll be happy.

Ronald Reagan, before he was President, was an actor who portrayed George “The Gipper” Gipp in the film Knute Rockne, All American and was referred to as The GipperReagan later used the line “Win one for the Gipper” in a political slogan in 1988.

His most famous use of the phrase was at the 1988 Republican National Convention when he told Vice President George H. W. Bush, "George, go out there and win one for the Gipper."

Obama has, in no way, earned the name “The Gipper” and how dare he try to refer to himself as such.

How do you F*** up the National Anthem?

Christina Aguilera was chosen to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl 45. How hard can that be?  Apparently for Christina Aguilera it was very hard.

Apparently, Christina Aguilera got too involved in her performance to notice that the line is not, “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming.” See the video below for her failed national anthem attempt.

The line Christina Aguilera erred on was, “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.”  According to a statement released by the singer, her Super Bowl flub was due to the gravity of the movement.

I agree with TamSlick on this one:

Seriously, how do you not know the lyrics to the national anthem? That’s like flubbing "Mary Had A Little Lamb" or "Twinkle Twinkle"…

Heat of the moment or not, you do not screw up the National Anthem of all songs, its just not done.  No Excuses.

Christina Aguilera has now joined the many other celebrities who have fudged the National Anthem in one way or another.

Rule 1 when it comes to music…

So, I was working during the Super Bowl today and therefore did not see the halftime show.  Not to mention The Bald One and I don’t have TV service.  I did however, hear about the suckiness of itThe Bald One and I decided to watch video of the halftime show and find out how bad it really was.

First of all, you don’t try to channel Daft Punk.  Secondly, you don’t try to cover Guns N’ Roses, even if you have Slash.  Thirdly, you don’t spout about how you want Obama to educate the kids in the middle of the song, and then follow it with “Father Father Help Us, send us some guidance from above”.  Lastly and most important of all, you sure as fucking shit don’t fuck with the man Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing!

So, Rule 1: Never fuck with the classics, it’s a great way to just piss us all right the hell off!

*The Bald One helped fill in my rage with proper verbiage where necessary.
