Clarity Has Come To That Childhood Question

So growing up when the question was asked and it always was, “what Star Wars character would you be?”  I always said Han but never gave it a lot of thought as to exactly what really drew me to that conclusion.  Maybe it’s because he was indepenedent and a smuggler.  My libertarian leanings run deep even to my childhood.  Then this week Phil posted something which Linoge commented on.

Be-Like-Han

Han was calm and cool no matter what was going down.  Then I saw this comment from Wolfman:

Han Solo is remarkable in this regard throughout the storyline. Stormtroopers got you on the run? Scream in a bloodcurdling manner and chase them, they won’t expect that. Luke Skywalker in over his head and probably dying (again? geez…) of hypothermia? Make the decision and go out after him. Tauntaun dies? Looks like a warm place to stash an idiot friend for a while. Whole base is a trap geared for your destruction? Stay flexible, and trap them right back. He’s the only character in the series that actually pulls the trigger on Vader, and he does it more than once. Be like Han, indeed…

That put it in perspective quite well. I always thought of Skywalker as a whiny little bitch. I had never thought about everything Han did though.  Ultimately I’d want to be the bad ass who shoots at Darth Vader.

If you told Han how much of a bad ass he is.  Han’s only response would be, “I know“.

SSCC #206 – Minneapolis

In the third-largest settlement for a police incident in the past two decades, the city of Minneapolis on Friday approved a $1 million payment to a mother of two who was severely burned when officers, acting on a tip looking for drugs they never found, used a flash/sound device, commonly known as a flash grenade, during a raid on a south Minneapolis apartment.

The injury thought isn’t even the best part.

City spokesman Matt Laible told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, “The application correctly set out the grounds for a no knock warrant. The warrant itself did not include the “no knock” provision due to an inadvertent error.”

So lets make this clear.  Cops execute a warrant that was issued with an “announcement of authority” clause as a no-knock.  Then they find absolutely no drugs in the residence or evidence there of, and they injure someone not even associated with the investigation.  Good news for the cops though:

No police officer involved in the raid has been disciplined for the incident, the city confirmed.

Every officer violated the terms of the warrant and they carry the responsibility of it.

Because who needs to knock when you can lob flash grenades at people injuring them and get away with it.

Crazy Guy With Gun: If you don’t have your own pistol, you may have to wait the rest of your life for the police to bring theirs.

[In the words of PDB, carry your damn guns people.  To steel from Breda, it’s a lighter burden than regret.  It’s like a trauma kit, it does you absolutely 0 good if it’s not with you when you need it.  You’re still bleeding out while waiting for someone else to arrive with theirs. -B]

Quote of the Day – Weer’d Beard (12/9/2011)

If your God asks you to not defend yourself, you rightly should tell him
to F-Off, because either he deserves it, or he’s testing you on the
brass content of your balls.

Weer’d Beard – Quote of the Day TMM

[It was a comment to something I said.  Weer’d saw exactly my philosophy on the subject.  There are many things I will not waiver my integrity on.  Throwing self-defense to the wind and letting evil triumph is the most despicable thing in the world.

Any person or god that states I should stand by and do nothing is not worthy of my support.  I don’t want to get to far into my personal feelings on the subject because I hate talking about religion unless someone actually brings it up and asks me about it.  It’s a pet peeve of mine mainly because it is a very personal thing and I find bitching at someone because they don’t believe what you believe to be a down right horrible thing to do, this includes believing there’s nothing.  This joke though puts my thoughts quite well.

There was an old man sitting on his porch watching the rain fall. Pretty
soon the water was coming over the porch and into the house.

The old man was still sitting there when a rescue boat came and the
people on board said, “You can’t stay here you have to come with us.”

The old man replied, “No, God will save me.” So the boat left. A little
while later the water was up to the second floor, and another rescue
boat came, and again told the old man he had to come with them.

The old man again replied, “God will save me.” So the boat left him again.

An hour later the water was up to the roof and a third rescue boat
approached the old man, and tried to get him to come with them.

Again the old man refused to leave stating that, “God will grant a miracle & save him.” So the boat left him again.

Soon after, the man drowns and goes to heaven, and when he sees God he
asks him, “Why didn’t you save me? I thought you would grand me a
miracle and you have let me down.”

God replied, “You idiot, I don’t know what you’re complaining about. I sent three boats after you!!

Get it?  -TMM]

What Happens When Someone Is Armed

Remember the Sheriff who told women to go out and get their concealed weapons permits and defend themselves.  Well a woman did just that and the Sheriff is walking the walk, still!

A mother who came home with her baby and found burglars in her home
grabbed her gun and scared the men out of her house and off her
property, according to a Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office incident
report.

Even with a shot fired by the home owner the Sheriff had the following to say.

After hearing about the woman who scared off the men who were in her
house, Wright said, “I’m thankful that someone in her life taught her
how to use a firearm and I’m thankful they did because she and her child
could’ve been victims. There were two men, one armed with a knife. It
could’ve gotten really ugly for her.”

That’s exactly right.  I love hearing stories like this, though I prefer it when the criminal is stopped from being a predator ever again.  Either by law enforcement catching them or by lead poisoning.  What I love most was you have a woman with a child who defended herself and her property successfully while being out numbered and them being armed.

The Criminal Occupational Hazard Reduction Organizations would have preferred this woman be unarmed against two grown men so they could do as they please.  Remember, there are some who think peace and empathy are the solution to criminals.  Don’t believe me, see this tweet from yesterday that the creator attempted to send down the memory hole.

Law abiding citizens who carry guns aren’t full of blind rage.  Quite the opposite, they spend a lot of time and effort avoiding confrontation.  However when a criminal brings the fight to our door, we have no reason to comply and it is safer for us to fight back.  How can you be empathetic with someone who want’s you dead, to rape you or your family, to steal your property, what is there to be empathetic about?

This person saw first hand the second failure that is the gun free zone of Virgina Tech, yet that was some how the fault of law abiding citizens who exercise their rights to be prepared for their own defense.

Self-defense is a choice, the same as being a victim.  No one has any right to force one choice on the other.  No one in the gun rights movement is attempting to force people to carry firearms for self defense.  We are demanding that people have the choice.  No one but god himself has the ability to restrict the right to self-defense, and even then I’d tell him to F-off.

SSCC Too many to Count – Lake County

Seriously I started trying to map out the criminals and investigators but the mesh was just unbelievable.

In 2005, a moose was standing somewhere in the mountains north of Columbia Falls when Jesse Jacobs allegedly shot it. Jacobs didn’t have a permit, however, so he reportedly got one from a friend who was a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. The tribal member took the meat. Jacobs claimed the head and antlers, which he would later mount and hang on his wall.

Jacobs was a member of the local law enforcement.  The list of incidents and problems, many of which were poaching related, are numerous and lengthy.  They even include a DUI while boating cover up and the cop was told NOT to take his boat out by a fellow officer just moments before.

Seriously how can I make an accurate count with things like this?

In September 2010, on the same day that Jacobs was charged with felony poaching, FWP began to take sworn statements from Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives, trying to determine who else in the office might have been poaching. FWP ultimately interviewed more than 50 people in the case, including several informants and former officers. The investigation, led by Game Warden Frank Bowen, pieced together details of what was known as the Coyote Club, a circle of Lake County law enforcement officers who’d allegedly been poaching game animals for more than a decade.

This article is just one big gigantic bag of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Remember the cop who thought that holsters were stupid and unnecessary and did an ND into the ground at the mall?  If you don’t, well you should for no other reason that the chief attempted to claim the officer did nothing wrong.

Well I stumbled across this one today.

Sgt. Michael Edwards was charged Thursday with endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported online court records show Edwards pleaded not guilty.

According to the complaint, Edwards was at a pretzel shop at Southridge Mall in Greendale on Nov. 2 when he reached into his back pocket for his wallet. The complaint said Edwards’ gun slid out of his waistband and went off. A woman standing nearby suffered a welt on her leg.

That man is unbelievably lucky that no one was hit or otherwise severely injured.  I find this charge fitting considering his negligence in this instance. His department has placed him on administrative duty.

I say leave his ass behind a desk permanently without a weapon.  He has shown a lack of care towards the carrying and use of a firearm and he needs to prove he no longer has the mental capacity of a fly and takes carrying such a tool seriously.

This is also a prime time to remind everyone about Rule 5 given the gun slipped out of his waist band and it shot into the ground.

Greendale police say the officer was lucky, and say they’re glad no one was injured. They say the bullet was fired directly into the ground, and disintegrated once it hit the marble floor.

Say it with me now, “Don’t try and catch a gun!
