Quote of the Day – Sebastian (2/18/2013)

New gun restrictions there, even modest ones, is a much bigger deal than in the states anti-gun forces have already largely won. Any victory there will provide a template that will be repeated in other traditionally pro-gun swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, you name it. Once the dominoes start to fall, it’s going to be extremely difficult to stop. This is why they cannot be allowed to score any wins at all. This isn’t about reasonableness. This isn’t about people coming together to solve problems. Politics is not either of those things: it is about power, and nothing else, and the side that is more effective at wielding power is the one that goes home victorious, and the other beaten up and bloodied in ways that couldn’t have been imagined when you went in thinking they were going to be reasonable. There is no reasonableness in the political process, there is only victory and defeat.

[First go read the whole thing.  Between that paragraph and the last paragraph it was a tie.

The law’s main purpose is simple, “to keep those who have the money and the power with the money and the power.”  Anyone who thinks differently is merely an ideologue who hasn’t discovered reality yet.

Right now our opponents are fighting tooth and nail to find a way to keep us out of the fight.  It is the only way they can hide their weakness and convince legislators to commit Seppuku.  Sebastian is right on another front, we must punish every last one of these tyrants come the next election.  We need to ensure those who attack our rights, even if unsuccessful pay the political price.

Those three sponsors for the Washington AWB are now saying, “I’m sorry I didn’t realize this was going to trample on more civil rights than just your right to arms.”  The three sponsors of that particular bill all belong to the Greater Peoples Republic of Seattle and I don’t see any of those paying for their crimes.  There are however plenty of people betraying gun owners over other bills such SB 5711.  We need to teach a very valuable lesson on all fronts.  We need to throw any legislator out who supported these bills.

Further if the state supports it, to show sincerity, get them recalled.  I’ve been contemplating for a while leading a charge to recall a couple of tyrants from Washington.  It will be exceedingly difficult, however there is always the possibility given the rapid change in the political climate of the past two months.  Washingtonians are pissed and many of them are becoming active again after being dormant for a long time.  I’m not kidding either, I know a few people who had even given up on voting after the King Dome/Safeco Field fiasco getting back into the ball game again.

What I don’t want to do though is make a bad move which is why I’m trying to talk with those who have a better aerial view of the political battlefield.

Make no mistake folks, we are seeing the final moves of a long played chess game.  How quickly it ends is anyone’s guess.  I can tell you if our opponents fail in their current plays, they will have exhausted themselves into defeat.  While we will still need to remain vigilant their relevancy politically will join the likes of the Aryan Nations and the KKK.  Let’s do everything we can to ensure their plays fail and anyplace they do gain an inch they pay politically by loosing a mile. -B]

SSCC #524 – Bozeman

A judge has found Bozeman police intentionally erased a portion of an audio recording made during a welfare check on a man who claims officers used excessive force against him.

This is unsurprising and it’s disturbing that there are some places that still don’t have dashboard cameras even with brand new police cars.  Why would anyone not want evidence that can be used to prove you did the right thing?  Unless of course you so regularly abuse your authority you’re afraid of being  caught.

State Sponsored Criminal #524: John Doe

Because when you abuse someone’s rights and try to hide it, it should just be your word against theirs right?

Friday Pick Me Up

I like me some dark black humor and that was a good jab at the current situation.

A friend who’s still a student told me last night he brought his 22 lr from home to plink with.  I chuckled and said, “You have 22 for it right.”  He didn’t realize the crunch had tightened the noose around even 22 ammo.

I don’t know how long this crunch is going to hold out, but I can tell you I am watching bulletin boards for the moment when guys start trying to sell ammo to make a mortgage payment.

Quote of the Day – Freiheit (2/15/2013)

I got about halfway through this and realized that if a damn whitetail deer can run 150 yards after being plugged by a .30 cal rifle bullet then why should I expect a bad guy to stop and drop dead after a single hit from a handgun round?

Freiheit – Comment to Let’s Talk Terminal Ballistics 3 – The Myth of Handgun Stopping Power

February 14th, 2013

[First if you haven’t been reading Tim’s series on Terminal Ballistics, I recommend you do.  There are a lot of myths out there and many of them are stubborn and have serious trouble dying despite evidence and science to the contrary.

Second, this is exactly why magazine capacity limits are total crap.  Go read this section most importantly and then ask yourself, “Why wouldn’t I want to carry as much ammunition in a single magazine as I could?”

There is no magic bullet, well maybe a 50 BMG, but still the idea of a person stopping magically merely because it was God’s own caliber is a myth.  Especially with regards to pistols.  That isn’t to say, as Caleb rightly points out, there are reasons to prefer one caliber over another, but it’s not for the reasons many throw out there. -B]

SSCC #523 – Salem

The arresting officer says when he pulled Poage’s car over for repeatedly swerving left of center; a breathalizer indicated that his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.

I  remember distinctly in high school a cop describing the horrors of a DUI accident scene.  Me thinks this officer either didn’t get the memo or the cop from high school was lying.

Either way this officer definitely should have known better.  At least his department gave him unpaid leave.  Would be better if they canned his ass.

State Sponsored Criminal #523: Gary Poage

Because it’s only a problem to drive under the influence if you’re not a cop.

Quote of the Day – Massad Ayoob (2/14/2013)

In an adult lifetime spent debriefing firefight survivors, I learned that the almost universal epiphany in the aftermath of such events was the realization that when you fight to survive, you’re really fighting to return to the people you love…the people who define your existence.

Massad AyoobOn Valentine’s Day

[I love my family more than anything.  It serves my family no benefit to be lying dead in a ditch.  To fight for my family though, to fight for myself, those two things most greatly benefit my family and loved ones.

Just the same as Massad points out fight the political battle before us for the people you love.  Don’t get cocky or complacent.  Many claim that X bill won’t move forward or that X bill couldn’t possibly pass.

Look at what happened in New York.  It was a blitzkrieg that took us all off guard before we had a chance to retaliate.  But that was New York you say, it couldn’t possibly happen in a state with decent support for firearms.  Really?

Let’s look at Colorado now shall we.  Do you want to reevaluate that assumption?

Listen folks, it sucks, there is no question we’re in a serious fight.  We cannot fall victim to pride, we cannot fall victim to over-confidence.  Our opponents did that and look at where it got them over the past decade.  We cannot underestimate them and their capabilities.  Each day we move from the tragedy that brought this fight before us, the closer we move to safety, but there will never be a magical time where our rights will be safe.  The price for liberty is eternal vigilance and the sooner you realize this the better.

I love my family more than anything and that’s why I am considerably more politically active than usual.  Usually I just use the written word when dealing with politicians  this time around I have resorted to using the dreaded box known as the telephone.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  I can tell you if the enemy gets an inch, they will do all they can to make it a mile.

I’m going to state this here and now, I will not waver, I will not cower, I will fight by any means necessary, to defend the inalienable right to keep and bear arms, endowed to us by our creator and merely enumerated in the Bill of Rights.

There are some who think that they do not need to support us, who don’t care because it doesn’t affect the guns they use.  The bad news is you either support the right to arms or you do not.  It’s quite simple really, Join or Die.

Join or Die
All profits go to the NRA.

SSCC #522 – Box Elder County

A former Box Elder County sheriff’s deputy accused of sexually assaulting women during a series of traffic stops has reached a plea agreement that could land him in state prison for up to five years.

Scott Womack, 37, reached a deal in 1st District Court in which he will plead no contest to one count of custodial sexual misconduct, a third-degree felony, and two counts of attempted custodial misconduct, class A misdemeanors, according to court records.

They dropped 9 additional charges including unlawful detention.  The whole incident overall is very disturbing, especially since the incidents go all the way back to October 2010.

Remember though, many claim that the police should be given a monopoly on force because they are somehow anointed and worthy of magical trust.  I’ve got more to add on that but I’m still letting my anger subside.

State Sponsored Criminal #522: Scott Womack

Because when you pull over a hot chick, make her strip for you, you’re a cop right you just need to make up an excuse.

And Here’s the Big One, Washington State AWB (SB 5737)

Came across this one tonight, read for the first time today.

AN ACT Relating to banning the sale of assault weapons; reenacting and amending RCW 9.41.010 and 9.94A.515; adding a new section to chapter 9.41 RCW; and prescribing penalties.

The bill in question is SB 5737.  Contact your state representatives, though I have also learned of another important tact.  Contact those in charge of the committees examining the bills.  If you can get the committee to kill the bill it’s better overall.

In this case it is the Law and Justice committee, and you should contact the following people:

My state rep informed us last night that bills are starting to lock down on whether or not they will actually be moving forward.  By the end of next week he said bills that haven’t even got through committee won’t be going anywhere.

We’re in the home stretch.  Keep up the pressure, yes it’s tiring, exhausting, and honestly shouldn’t even have to be doing this fight.  Instead there’s a group of individuals who constantly insist on throwing us under the bus.
